The Stables

Strong, resolved and enriching architecture. That is what New Zealand design boutique practice McKinney + Windeatt Architects aims to provide and their project, The Stables is a fine example. From its ivy clad walls to the dramatic profile of floor to ceiling, wall to wall steel and glass windows curtains flapping in the breeze, from the cosy confines of the exposed brick kitchen to the bright sunlight streaming in to the adjoining private terrace, all joined by the consistent march of the connecting staircase the house is part stage, part gallery, all home.

La Granja Ibiza was once a private residence but now a small hotel with only 5 rooms and a separate guesthouse. Dark and moody, imperfect and beautiful, an oasis from the hot sun and even hotter night life of this party island. There’s even a biodynamic farm. Perfection.

A joyous celebration of all things boho in the hills behind the beautiful blue beaches of northern New South Wales. In a part of the country known for its lush greenery and laid back alternative lifestyle, it’s not surprising to find such a colourful, individual home. Stylish, fun, liveable and lively… and it once was a boring 1980’s brick bungalow. A home about personality and passion by Byron Bay based Alida and Miller.

If I looked at pictures of your home could I weave a story about who you are, your loves, your hopes, your life? Just these few images of South African designer David Strauss‘ home tells me so much yet leaves enough for me to want to know more. Mysterious, moody, artistic, lover of simple luxuries.
