The new luxe

Posted on Fri, 20 Apr 2018 by midcenturyjo

It’s not your usual luxury. Yes there are rich colours and high end finishes. Velvet sits with marble, gleaming metals reflect statement art. Yes it’s sumptuous and tactile, lush and sophisticated but it’s just a little edgy, a little sharp. It’s the new luxe. Diagonal Residence by Barcelona-based interior designer Jaime Beriestain.

What appears at first to be a sleek and refined if somewhat restrained West London Townhouse takes an about face and breaks out the colour and the fun. Art Deco riffs meet 80’s Memphis murmurings and by the time the terrazzo takes centre stage it’s all over. You’re in love. By London-based architectural and interior design firm  Waldo Works.

The exterior of this home blew me away, but how San Antonio-based architecture firm Poteet Architecture updated the interior left me speechless. A fantastic example of taking something old, preserving the elements that should be saved and updating the rest for a young family. This isn’t your granny’s house anymore!

The carriage + pool house is as awesome as the main house. LOVE!!!

It’s a play of colours, of shapes, of periods and styles. It’s a play on the senses, an appeal to desires and memories. It’s classic and it’s edgy. It’s theatre set and it’s home. It’s eclectic but not haphazard. No if you look closely it is refined and just so. It’s Château en Île de France by Didier Benderli of Paris-based Kerylos Intérieurs.

More kitchen dreams

Just when I think I have returned to the light the dark side draws me back  and I’m feeling the blues real bad. The good blues that is. Take a look at this stunning kitchen! Rick blue cabinets and tiles, a vintage vibe, brass, brass and more brass and don’t get me started on those windows. I want to pick the whole thing up and plonk it down in my own home. W + S Kitchen by Los Angeles based Taylor + Taylor.
