Gable House, designed by Studio Doherty & Folk Architects, redefines family living through bold yet harmonious design. A zinc-clad extension by Folk Architects introduces contemporary contrast, with a glazed bridge linking the heritage Queen Anne Federation home to the new wing. The reconfigured interiors embrace openness and natural light, with a salvaged brick feature wall grounding the space in history. Timber-lined ceilings add warmth, while pale blue quartzite and a striking pink pantry energize the kitchen. Playful yet refined, the home’s layered material palette—stone, Murano glass, and vintage accents—creates a rich, expressive interior that blends heritage charm with modern sophistication.

What a joy it must be for interior designer Stephanie Barba Mendoza to come home to this after a long day at work. Her northwest London home is filled with the most beautiful colours and patterns, and I had to start with the kitchen/dining space because WOW this combination of a leafy wallpaper (Marly by Colony) and peachy/pink paint colour (Sweet Briar by Morris & Co) and those gorgeous green tiles and marble counter…. what a treat! The orange living room walls (Dutch Orange by Edward Bulmer) carries the warmth through to the other side of the house. I am completely smitten with this. Photos: Kensington Leverne.

If Alfredo Parades‘ Long Island mansion wasn’t fabulous enough, prepare yourself! This is his Shelter Island weekend house and it is everything you could want for chilling out on weekends. It started off as a small 1870s Victorian cottage and was added on to over the years. Alfredo took on the restoration work in an attempt to enhance it’s original features and the historic aesthetic. It is bright and airy, with beach vibes and tons of vintage touches that make it casual and inviting. Photos: Bjorn Wallander.

This 1880s rowhouse renovation by Toronto-based Tommy Smythe and Colin Baird of Tom Design Collective celebrates fearless design and bold colours. A red front door opens to a vestibule with ikat grass cloth, turquoise hooks, and graphic tiles. Vibrant palettes unfold—moody blues and magenta in the living room, pink and green in the kitchen, and a crimson dining room with striking moldings and opulent accents.

Vibrant penthouse balancing the iconic with the niche. With a simple brief of ‘as little white as possible‘, we had the pleasure of designing and curating the interiors of a newly built penthouse in a residential building in Kreuzberg. We accompanied the clients when they bought the property during the shell construction phase (right before COVID hit). The colours where consciously used to functionally define the open plan space – the kitchen is bright yellow, the dining area is kept in shades of red and the living room is drenched in green. A more atmospheric, nuanced design was chosen for the private area of the apartment, whereas all corners are carefully curated for a vibrant, lived-in composition. The goal was to create a rhythm of elements that pull interest and spark conversations, while being totally useful and not too precious. Each design decision in this project was taken with a full commitment – there are no half-measures here. And that adds to the joy, thinking of the final effect.
Such fun use of colours here, and I will always be smitten with bright yellow kitchens. That island of yellow tile is such a happy statement. This whole apartment is a statement, with such a wonderful energy. Designed by Studio Bosko.
