A new bedroom and library in an old apartment

Posted on Tue, 6 Mar 2018 by KiM

While I anxiously await the project that never seems like it is going to happen (the creation of a library in my third floor unused space), I can only hold back pangs of jealousy when I come across projects like this by Sophie Lallias of Atelier Sofi(A). She created a bedroom and library and left a narrow staircase to access the rest of the apartment. 3.5 metre high bookcases allow for maximum use of a very small space and the result is TONS of book storage, a workspace and a cozy bedroom. (That’s FarrowBall’s Tessela wallpaper in the hallway and Cole & Sons Woods & Stars in the bedroom…and these photos are by Benoit Alazard)

Los Feliz style

Love the vibe in this home designed by L.A. based designer Barbie Palomino. Some dark paint choices make it moody, with furnishings that give it a groovy, mid-century feel. I dig all of this.

Quirky with colour and pattern

I continue to be in awe of the creativity and eclectic use of pattern and colour of Tiffany Duggan. This home is no exception. A lovely, colourful project for a young gentleman on the very picturesque Hillgate Place. Moorish influences, interesting textures and bold colours were used to add character and authenticity to this quirky Notting Hill townhouse.

The Weaver’s House

“The idea of home is a primal and a personal construct. Our mission is to create homes that support us practically, engage us sensorially and nourish us emotionally. Each home is a rational, passionate project—a labour of love.”

A couple of days ago Kim feature the time capsule Dennis Severs’ house. Today I’m once again in Spitalfields, once again in a weaver’s house but this time it’s a contemporary yet sympathetic renovation of a Huguenot Townhouse by Chan + Eayrs.

Southern belle

I don’t think I’ve seen such a lovely entrance hall in ages. The colour, the textures, the mix of old and new, traditional but not at all stuffy, country but not saccharine sweet. If you love these three showhouse rooms by Ashley Gilbreath Interior Design you must see the rest of this Montgomery, Alabama based design firm’s portfolio.
