Some days start with such promise then come crashing down. Some days just suck. Some days I wish I could run away to a hideaway where the rooms are simple yet beautiful, the tick of the clock is actually the sound of a giant irrigator in a far field and the view is a never ending paddock of rich brown soil. No disturbances, no responsibilities, no one else. Today I’d like to run away to Quamby Home, a newly renovated 1870s holiday house in rural Tasmania. If you decide to run away yourself one day you can take 9 of your family and friends with you. Today I’ll just escape by myself.

I have always said that New Zealand is God’s country. Perhaps I need to look a little closer to home, to the beautiful, unspoilt wilderness of Tasmania. Today we are heading to heaven in a pumphouse. Decommissioned in the 90s the Lake St Clair hydroelectric pumphouse lay empty having defeated a number of developers until Simon Currant stepped in in 2004. Finally in 2015 after a decade of hard work Pumphouse Point, a boutique hotel of 18 rooms, designed by Cumulus Studio, opened its doors. Two buildings ,one onshore the other at the end of the flume (jetty), provide the accommodation and facilities. The rooms are contemporary cool with a nod to the industrial but really it’s all about the wilderness. And truly it’s a slice of paradise.

halcyon – adjective – denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful…
You may have seen it in the latest Vogue Living. You may have followed its progress on Anna Spiro’s Instagram account. You may have only seen it in your dreams. Halcyon House, the new boutique hotel at Cabarita Beach in Northern New South Wales. Pattern on pattern with bold colour and crisp white, gallery walls and vintage pieces. A once down at heels beach motel has risen phoenix like to become a glam but welcoming, casually elegant holiday destination. Architecture by Virginia Kerridge and interiors by Anna Spiro of Black & Spiro.

I have never been to Germany, but if I ever to get the opportunity to go, I know where I want to stay! The Flushing Meadows. Our hotel is situated on the top two floors of an industrial building in Munich’s most vibrant neighborhood, the Glockenbach – just a couple of meters from the Isar’s wild river banks. The third floor features 11 individual loft studios with exceptionally high ceilings, each created in collaboration with selected personalities and friends from various creative realms, including music, cinema, design, sports and art. The top floor is home to five variously sized penthouse studios, some with private terrace – as well as the Flushing Meadows Bar.
