The Imaginarium

Posted on Wed, 28 Jan 2015 by midcenturyjo

I remember the first time I entered stylist Sibella Court’s bijou shop of wonders The Society inc. in Paddington, Sydney. I was overwhelmed by her wonderful wares. I wanted to hide under a table and only crawl out again at closing time and pretend the Paddington terrace house was all mine to explore. Now my fantasies can come true. Sibella has opened a new warehouse in St Peters and the terrace house is available to rent on airbnb.  “An imaginarium… a quiet oasis offering the curious traveller a treasure trove of curiosities, artisan objects & furniture, a vast reference library…” See. Dreams do come true.

An artist’s home

This, dear readers, pretty much sums up my dream home. Ah mah gawd. It belongs to British artist Rory Dobner and is located in London. It is perfectly random, quirky, eclectic, vintage and fun. It’s the type of home I could spend hours in scouring every corner to see what surprises I can find. The only thing I’d change is to make the purple settee and chairs a silver or charcoal grey. Yesssssss. Via Elle Decor España, photos by Montse Garriga.

The queen of darkness

I was shocked to discover recently that we have never done a proper post featuring the brilliance that is designer Abigail Ahern. Jo and I have been obsessed with her for years, as her dark, dramatic and vintage approach to decorating is so appealing to us both. I’m sure most of you are familair with her work and these photos, but I had to share because Abigail ROCKS and I feel the need to sing her praises. (To white or to black…that is the question….)

LOOOOOOVE the penguin lamp above that Abigail designed as part of her new collection for Debenhams.

Simon Upton’s loft for sale!!!

Posted on Thu, 9 May 2013 by KiM

The kind folks over at London estate agency Domus Nova sent over some photos of a SWEET converted warehouse in Notting Hill for sale – that happens to be superstar interior and portrait photographer Simon Upton. It’s a beautiful space and Simon’s decor is impeccable – love the ethnic touches and mixes of eras with the vintage furnishings. Here are a bit of details about it: A private ground floor entrance leads to a double-height entrance hall lit by huge overhead skylights. From here a staircase leads to a vast living space which is pitched to double-height in the centre. This impressive open plan room spans nearly 50 feet in length and measures over 1000 square feet. In the centre, a sky-lit mezzanine creates a sizeable master bedroom with further space for a home office area. The white washed room is floored by lime washed ash wood throughout and is lit by sky lights and large industrial style windows. The property further comprises a second bedroom, a family bathroom with a traditional roll-top bath and a useful utility room. At the top is a private roof terrace… I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Simon must have taken these photos. 😉 (Link HERE)

Mr and Mrs Charlie

Welcome to the wonderland home of Mr and Mrs Charlie. Charlie Kinyon, an artist working in Austin and Sydney  and Melissa Ninham creator and maker, weaver of wire and rope and dreams. Together they create and explore. This is a way of thinking, a way of living, a way of creating beauty, an expression and a statement. I love it. I wish I could live like this. (At least for a few days…. I think that is all I’d be brave enough to do.) Finding beauty in the old, the odd, the found, the discarded. You can see more on their blog and their instagram.
