Wooden heart

Posted on Mon, 15 Jun 2015 by midcenturyjo

A modern 2 storey extension to a modest wooden cottage includes a new kitchen, dining area and master suite. The unusual shape allows for light to flood into the rooms while fitting neatly within the awkward suburban block. Concrete and white walls are warmed by the extensive use of timber. The heart of the home with a wooden heart. Fenwick by Julie Firkin Architects.

Carlton Warehouse

A house within a ruin is the premise for this new home in Carlton in inner city Melbourne. Rising from a decrepit warehouse shell, through a garden space climbing higher until, at the top, it reveals its living areas with expansive views, new spirals out of the old. The repetition of a circle is a recurring motif of the architects’ recent work. Carlton Warehouse by Kennedy Nolan.

Spiral

I’m in a spin, a spiral spin. I love the simplicity and elegance of this Melbourne-based Pleysier Perkins renovation. The extension to a Victorian era house is punctuated by a spiral staircase that rises through a double height void connecting the timber box above (bedrooms) to the glazed kitchen living areas. Perfection.

Afternoon light

I love the way natural light plays across a room. What a beautiful space to be in as the sun starts to set. So warm. So golden. Don’t get me wrong. I love this room (and house) by Domenic Alvaro in any light but there is just something special about the first too photos.

More from Nadine Nakache Design

Another great renovation from Nadine Nakache Design. The original semi-detached home has been reconfigured and enlarged at the rear. The contemporary addition sees clever storage solutions and staircase playing a connecting role between living, kitchen and dining areas. Modern, simple, clean lined. Functional and fabulous.
