Mike Jacobs Architecture

Posted on Wed, 1 Oct 2014 by KiM

I’d like to share a couple of beautiful homes designed by Mike Jacobs Architecture that both have mid-century modern vibes. This first one, located in Los Angeles, is as palatial as they come and is a classy, toned-down version of mid-century design. The second is located in Los Feliz, and was a 630 sq ft addition and complete interior renovation of a 1920’s Mediterranean-style bungalow. It has a bright and energizing mid-century vibe that is much more “Palm Springs” and casual than the first. My favourite. (Check out another of their projects here)

Both of these homes have a beautiful selection of furnishings that perfectly suit the architecture. Rove Concepts is an ideal choice for mid century modern furniture (such as seating, tables, accents) if this look is what you are after.

Stalking small on a large scale

Posted on Tue, 30 Sep 2014 by midcenturyjo

It’s an award winning house on the tiniest of inner city blocks. It’s been published in books, magazines and blogs, featured on TV and lauded by all. Now it’s for sale. I’m stalking Domenic Alvaro‘s Small House in Surry Hills, Sydney. You can see my original post here and you’ll see how its decor has softened over time and how the roof top garden hasn’t fared so well. Small living on a grand scale with a big price tag. Real estate link here while it lasts.

Résidence Esplanade

Posted on Tue, 23 Sep 2014 by KiM

I do not usually start my posts that feature a home with a photo of the bathroom. But since this may be my favourite bathroom EVER, I decided it had to be first. This is la résidence Esplanade, by Montréal architect Emilie Bédard (collab with Idea Design).
For the record, I love the rest of this home too.
