Casa Morelli is a vacation home in the hills of Chianti in the heart of Tuscany, completely restored by Holzrausch and extended with a spacious outdoor area. The center of the house is now a modern, open living-dining area with a kitchen. A large panoramic window that can be opened completely, combined with specially handcrafted cotto floors, creates a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces and allows views of the rolling Chianti hills. In the spirit of reducing the variety of materials as much as possible, cotto is also used as a wall covering in the showers, by the fireplace and in the kitchens. Wood paneling in bog oak, washbasins made of solid travertine blocks, and slightly iridescent wall plastering emphasize the handcrafted character of the house. The freestanding furniture was specially designed and hand-built by Klaus Lichtenegger. 

Old (15th century!) and new blending together so perfectly and effortlessly. This home is an exceptional example of this and the dark tones, earthy elements and minimal approach throughout add such a dramatic and modern elegance. And worth a look at the before photos here to see how far it came.

“Spotted Gum House is an alteration and addition to an existing interwar bungalow nestled amongst the mature, leafy green trees of Sydney’s North Shore neighbourhood of Artarmon. While respecting the suburban landscape and heritage conservation area we have restored the street-facing façade while exploring a hidden, modern sculptural annexe at the rear.

The three-bedroom home has been transformed into a blend of traditional and contemporary architecture. The design vernacular is courageous in its exploration of scale; Spotted Gum House now explores a tension between three distinct architectural languages; the existing front of the home, and the upstairs and downstairs of the new rear extension.”

Surrounded by the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, this wonderful weekend home is a study of earthy neutrals and a modern, somewhat minimalist aesthetic. It’s a really warm and cozy space that is everything you need in both the summer and winter months with many windows affording lovely views of trees and mountains. This extensive remodel joins two abutting apartment units in the heart of New York City, crafting a creative sanctuary for a growing family of artists and entrepreneurs. Inspired by the functional compartments of vintage travel trunks, the design focuses on efficient and highly adaptable uses of space that allow for opening up and closing down. As a corner property, the original units’ natural spatial idiosyncrasies were resolved by implementing a long, linear circulation core, from the entryway to the living room, with an organic architecture that strategically delineates service and play. Characterized by its curved casework, collaborations with the artist-owner on custom wallpapers, and its modern furniture selections, the Chelsea apartment is an incredibly personalized, family-friendly home.
