Summer Thornton encore

Posted on Tue, 23 Jul 2013 by midcenturyjo

Is it really five years since we were introduced to the work of Summer Thornton on Desire to Inspire? As is my habit I’ll skip back and forward through our archives and click over to websites to see what the designers and photographers, stylists and architects have been up to since we last visited. Imagine the smile that spread across my face when I revisited Summer Thornton Design and discovered her take on the bachelor pad. Masculine and multilayered, elegant yet casual when needed. A touch of humour and bucket loads of style.

Olivier Chabaud

A renovation of a classic home gone modern in Villennes-sur-Seine, France (loving the deck overlooking the stream)…A bright, neutral stunner of a loft in Paris….a modern-rustic-ethnic inspired interior of a home in Molières. These striking homes were designed or architected by Parisian Olivier Chabaud.

Susanna Cots – parallel to the sea

I have another stunning home for you designed by the talented Susanna Cots. The sea is the centre that marks the disposition of the rooms, the lighting and the colours of this interiors project. Inspired by the house’s exterior, we captured the lights and the shades which contribute to simplicity and calm. White predominates and gives to the space a personality that attracts order, and is complemented by colour. The design stretches out to the sea from every part of the house, to allow Nature in. My favourite combination – a simple, modern interior in mostly white with rustic accents (gorgeous coffee and dining tables!). The flooring in the bedroom and bathroom looks a bit like decking but I can overlook that. I am intrigued by the kitchen – very cool how the countertops are white and black and how the black carries up the wall.

Spring & Mercer

Ultimate urban chic. That’s how the designers Spring & Mercer describe this Covent Garden show apartment. A desaturated palette, custom furniture, a nod to the mid century and a distinct masculine vibe. Ultimate urban chic indeed.

Connecting

It isn’t so much a look. It’s a connection. That tug at your heart, the stirring of a memory in your design mind. Dreams and history and reminiscence. I’ve never met Seattle based interior designer Brian Paquette, never lived in his part of the world but there is something. A connection. A link. An understanding. A love of what he creates. The simplicity, the honesty, the beauty.
