Can you see the sauna down the end of the garden?
– What? Where?
By the pool. Those lovely tiles.
– Oh! I was looking for an ugly orange pine box.
A very stylish sauna by Melbourne-based Taylor Pressly Architects.
I think by now you would know that I have a thing for beautifully renovated Victorian era architecture. I go weak at the knees for a stunning terrace house with contemporary yet sympathetic interiors. If the lower floor has exposed Sydney sandstone walls, light streaming in and a pool then I’m a goner. I’m real estate strolling scrolling in the Sydney suburb of Paddington in a stunning home with interiors by Madeleine Blanchfield Architects. If the bank manager would just lend me the millions required I’d move straight in. I wonder if the owner would leave the Leila Jeffreys’ bird photographs behind? Link here while it lasts.
Time to escape the everyday. Time for another virtual getaway. We’re headed to Montauk, New York, a village at the east end of the Long Island peninsula but we’re not headed to a home full of Hamptons’ clichés. No our getaway is a cool surf-inspired bungalow where mid century meets boho. Light, bright and perfect for up to 8 guests. I’m filing those exterior wall slats in my inspiration folder. Federal by McKinley Bungalows.
I’m real estate strolling scrolling in London again. Am I crazy? The property may be amazing but the prices are eye watering. Fancy a Georgian era townhouse with a stylish modern twist slap bang in the Soho area? Do you have a fistful of dollars? Oh well we can dream can’t we. St Anne’s Court, London W1 via The Modern House.
Hubert Zandberg, one of my favourite designers for about as long as this blog has existed, was tasked with creating a Mediterranean melting pot for his client’s holiday home. He combined a paired-back blue and white colour scheme with a plethora of neutral textures and earthy elements. The mix of locally sourced finishes, bespoke furniture and vintage finds resulted in a relaxed home for the family to refuel in a spectacular setting – Torre Vedra, Ibiza. It is so serene and welcoming.
