Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

Posted on Mon, 25 Jul 2011 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to  desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

Please find attached an image of Lily the Graham’s dog – who often models for us on shoots
Lizzy

Sweet pea waiting for a friend.
Jill

This is Sprout – posing regally on a chair that belonged to my grandfather.
– Emily (Brooklyn, NY)

This is Dexter, a shepherd/husky rescue.  He’s not allowed on the living room furniture but he constantly leans on the furniture and looks at us as if to say “technically mom, I’m not ON it”.  The sofa is super comfy and big from Urban Barn, the end tables are from Crate and Barrel, the blue velvet curtains are from Ikea, and the blanket I made myself.

This second picture was allowed only for Desire to Inspire and it took me 10 minutes to convince him to get up on the chair!
The third picture is of Dexter sneaking a peak of the Desire to Inspire site!  If I’m too engrossed in an article he lays his head on the keyboard to remind me he’s there. Plus he has his own dog blog at www.dextersdays.comso he prefers me to read his blog 🙂
– Angela (Oshawa, Ontario)

This is our 2 year old great dane Jonas, sitting on our leather ottoman. He loves sitting like this on couches, chairs, or on our laps!
– Beth and Chuck (Kansas City, KS)

1 – This is our cat Penny, taking her usual late-morning nap. Ten years ago we found her abandoned at a rest stop outside Niagara Falls, wearing a collar with a Denver phone number. Thankfully, our phone calls were not returned.
2 – This one’s kind of fuzzy, but it’s her sitting on the footboard…

– Elizabeth

This tattered settee is in desperate need of recovering however Benjamin and Sophie, our 11 year old sibling Lhasa rescues, just won’t hear of it.
Larry

This is Isaac (Newton) playing on his beloved sofa in my boyfriend’s apartment in Trieste, Italy.
– Giorgia

I would like to submit a picture of our family cat Willie Greene “the baddest pimp you’ve ever seen”. The picture I’m sending is of Willie Greene surveying his kingdom 🙂

Here is a picture of Harry relaxing on a sunny afternoon in San Francisco!
– Sandy

Our 8.5 year old Saint Bernard Moose just had a bath and he knows it’s the only time he’s allowed on the sofa. Even his drool is no match for our 10 year old White IKEA Göteborg slipcover sofa!
Hansy, our 13 year old white “tiger” day dreams of chasing zebras in the jungle while resting high atop his throne…
Cameron (Southern Virginia)

Here is our cat Fluff – who likes to perch up high on our mantelpiece.
– Christa and Graham (England)

Photo of Brooklyn, our Border Collie looking quite alert on our tweed lemon-lime colored sofa.
-Stephanie (Fountain Valley, California)

Meet Harvey the 7 month goldendoodle from Edmond, OK! He’s every bit as sweet and charming as he looks sitting on the vintage couch my husband had recovered for me as a wedding gift. His comparable looks to a Muppet suit his goofy disposition very well!
Jessica

Henry, my 4-year-old Basset Hound chillin’ on my favorite vintage tufted sofa in Portland, Maine. Side note: Total cost of the sofa and fabulous print: $15
Tara

I couldn’t resist sharing this pic of our kitty Coli on the first night after we adopted him, passed out rather adorably on our Sigurd Ressel falcon chair. He melted my heart right then and there.
– Christy (Melbourne, Australia)

This is a chair that my puggle, Oates never usually lays down on.  I moved the furniture around in my livingroom one day and right after I put the chair there, he jumped right up and made himself comfy behind the throw pillow.  I knew it was a pets on furniture moment in the making!
Barb

This is Saga, she’s a seven yr old bullterrier, sun- bathing on the sofa. Her dreams must be great cause she sleeps all the time and have since she was a bebe. She’s my big love and I tell her everyday
– Louise (Sweden)

This is Finn who likes to sit on the sofa but when the sofa isn’t available, he squeezes into this antique Chinese chair.  Amazingly he never scratches  the wood.

This is Jasper, my newfie, in my apartment in New York City. She was feeling sick, so allowed on the loveseat for the day.
– Jen

This is Nell, our retired racing greyhound on Pottery Barn’s Manhattan sofa. Above her is one of four original prints from 1891 issues of Harper’s Weekly – proposed renderings of the Columbian Exposition, which was built the following year.
Brad and Melissa (Evanston, IL)

Kitty follows me around the house, but especially loves when I work in my studio so she can get comfortable on my custom made peacock chair!  We adopted her three months ago from a rescue organization. When she is not laying on the chair watching me, she likes playing fetch with plastic drinking straws (for real) or pulling upholstery nails out of the furniture!
– Kate and Andries (Shanghai China)

This is Lucille, the queen of the house. She is seen here in the first 2 pictures on my mom’s new bedding (a huge change from the last “pets on furniture” picture I had of Lucille) and then in my room yawning/hinting at me that she is no longer going to cooperate with the picture taking. Clearly we are (now) a household that doesn’t shy away from colorful and dramatic bedspreads!
– Sarah (New York City)

Lulu sitting on a  leather Butterfly chair in the Catskills.
– Audrey (New York, New York)

Here is Toby, my mom’s Yorkie mix, striking a handsome pose on a bench in her living room.
– Dina

Here’s my retired Greyhound Bel taking it easy on her cane sofa. She’s taken total ownership of the sofa and spends hours contemplating…  whatever…. here in the sculpture-studio sitting-room.
– Lindsay (Hokianga, New Zealand)

This is a picture of our baby boy Dakota sitting on an antique wooden child’s table and chair. He wouldn’t fit on it now so he opts for the loveseat instead.
– Canace (Bloomingburg, N.Y.)

This is photo documentation of my living room, just in case I forget what it looks like in later years? I was just spinning taking pictures from a centre point in the apartment but there the little cutie, Frankenstein, is, hanging out on the most comfortable futon ever.
– McKenzie (Eugene, Oregon)

Attached is a picture of Tucker, our Goldendoodle, who fancies himself a great protector.  Just a few minutes before this picture was snapped, he was laying on the futon “keeping watch” on the insides of his eyelids, but then he heard a noise and decided to snap to attention.  🙂
– Bev (Maple Shade, NJ)

After my friend Amanda had her two fluffy darlings Alfie and Andi exposed to internet fame i thought I would send through a little slice of a day in the life of my cat. His name is Ali, as in the boxer. he was named as such after being rescued at five weeks old from under the concrete floor of a boxing gym by the fire department. As you can tell by his size he is probably supposed to be a street cat (probably going by the name of Cassius Clay). As he did not grow up with a mother he is a little bit mental and sometimes lives up to his name. In fact the vet actually registered him officially as Ali Mohammed. He likes to sleep in weird places, eat and pull things off the fridge door. I am particularly fond of the photo where he is imitating a pez-dispenser (despite it’s blurriness).

Our dear friend Paige took picts of our new boy
In our new house
Of course keeping him on this stool was nearly impossible
I’m not even sure he would fit now
Samson is a boxer mix we found at the post office.
Total dude. Totally in love.
– Andria (Denver CO)

bella- my assistant. bella likes to investigate anything different, rearranged furniture, flowers, or anything new that comes into our home. here she wants to climb on the ladder for a closer look.
Cheryl

This is my carved wood Louis the XVI nailhead chair covered with Belgium linen and my 14 year old little white Schnauzer Oliver. He loves chairs!
– Patricia (Dallas)

Hamlet, my Wire Fox Terrier, on his favorite chair, a reupholstered street find from before the bed-bug era…
Here he is joined on the chair by his boyfriend, Buster. (Not as good a pic of the chair, tho 🙁 )
– Mark (Inwood, Manhattan)

I’ve attached a shot of our dear Sophie on a vintage wing chair. (A dead ringer for Carol Channing) as well as Olivier on our front porch.
– Larry (High Falls, NY)

This is my 6-month-old Modesto chair from Arhaus with my 3-year-old cat, Xander, doing a faceplant on it. Of course his preferred napping spot is velvet and requires a daily defuzzing.
– Kim (Chicago)

I’ve just recently started a blog and while trying to do a tour of my living room, I could not get my dog, Opie to leave the room.  I affectionately call him our guard dog.  That’s quite a misnomer because he is probably the most laid back dog you’d ever meet..
Suzy (Greensboro, NC)

This is my 2 year old cat Aster on top of a cabinet that once belonged to my grandmother. She loves to get up there to get away from the other 3 cats.
– Pam (Cincinnati, OH)

Here is Hamish (the Scottish Fold) sitting in my husband’s study – on his bookcase. Hamish is a rescue pet who has fallen on his feet. He is 3 years old and has been with us for a few weeks. He adores my husband Jim.
– Jill and Jim (Northcote, Vic.)

This is our rescue cat, Poppy, lounging in the late afternoon sun on the bay window in the dining area of our kitchen diner (kind of furniture, kind of not..tenuous link?!). We’ve been in our bungalow for 7 months now and are slowly renovating it. You’ll notice the georgian effect windows (new!) contrast nicely against the cream wood-chip wallpaper and HIDEOUS floral curtains (old!).
Kate (Hayling Island, Hampshire, England)

And not really related to pets on furniture but just pets, below is a photo I took to document the cat drama my husband and I have been dealing with since Friday morning. 🙁 See the full story here.

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

I designed this chair and it has become the perminant nap spot for my dogs Oliver (left) and little 9 month old rescue Chihuahua Henry (right). Dogs know furniture! There is never room for me on this piece. After 8 months, Oliver, now age 14, is finally allowing Henry to share it with him. Henry is now a very proud little dog with the best seat in the house!
– Patricia (Dallas, TX)

A photo of my Lions Head Rabbit, Harriet, on our vintage velvet chair. It is her favorite spot in the house.
– Brit

Lily from Austin, Texas.  🙂
Elise

Photo 1 is my American Bull Dog, Stella. Photo 2 is my mom’s Frenchie, Annie Baby. Photo 3 is my Frenchie, Georgie. Photo 4 is our English Bulldog, Gus. !
– Doub (Philadelphia, PA)

This is our cat “Jacky” some years ago and nowadays. Meanwhile she’s an old lady, already 15 years sharing our family life.
– Mano

1. This is a photo of my five month old kitten, Slouchy sitting on my new chair which I found on a nature strip during hard rubbish! In good condition, I thought it would be perfect to keep my handbag on. My other cat Eva, is looking on.
2/3. This is Slouchy and Eva hanging out in our bedroom. They love to sleep on the bed because the heating duct is in the roof and blows directly down. Very comfortable during winter. This is my favourite patchwork quilt cover, by PIP Linen.

– Georgia (Melbourne VIC)

Attached are photos of my cats approving (or rather, indifferently noticing) the new Eames-style chairs gracing my dining room.  I have no design sense at all, hard as I may try, so I am mostly sending this on the insistence of a dear friend who does have style and got me hooked on Desire to Inspire.  I simultaneously love and fear color, but these orange babies were love at first sight.  The wide-eyed tortoise-shell kitty is Linus (he can do the Puss’n’Boots big-dewy-eyed stare that can melt steel) and the black kitty is Cimarron (a fierce foster cat who has a thing for sleeping on people or my violin case).
– Mugino

This chair can fit two people. It’s Archie’s favorite chair. He’s a 3 year-old Giant Schnauzer/Italian Spinone mix I adopted from the ASPCA. Or maybe he adopted me?
– Wendy (Manhattan)

I HAD to include this “entry” from Lolita: I just came across this picture on craigslist and thought of (bad) Pets on Furniture.
(Thankfully the seller was offering this chair for free)
