Warm and tactile minimalism

Posted on Tue, 12 Jul 2022 by midcenturyjo

The perfect blend of primitive and modern with a warm minimalism and a touch of wabi-sabi. It’s about clean lines, variations on a neutral colour palette and subtle changes in texture. Earthy but chic. T Studio by Taipei-based Ecru Studio.

A château for sale in Bordeaux

Posted on Sun, 10 Jul 2022 by KiM

This stunning 11 bedroom, 9 bathroom French castle was built in the the middle of the 19th century and is located about a 20 minute drive from Bordeaux. This castle has been completely renovated with quality materials by an architect specializing in the restoration of historic buildings and I can’t help but laugh at alot of the interior. Trendy much? It has a lot going for it regardless – a 5-hectare park, 19th century wind turbine, heated outdoor swimming pool with pool house, a “sound and light” installation that illuminates the chateau in the evening while music is played from loudspeakers hidden throughout the chateau grounds (OMGGGGG). For sale via Leggett and Belles Demeures.

Stalking on the Thames

Posted on Fri, 8 Jul 2022 by midcenturyjo

As in right on the Thames. Estate agency The Modern House describes the unique home as “Handsomely moored on the southern banks of the Thames, Bosco is a spectacularly converted 1950s Dutch barge with a 120-year mooring on Oyster Pier in Battersea. She was designed by LAB Architects for their own family and contains three bedrooms, two living spaces, a utility room, an open-plan kitchen/dining room, and a sublime winter garden on the deck.”

I’ve always had a daydream of living on a houseboat but this is a houseboat on steroids and I’m in love.

Stalking maximalism in London

Posted on Fri, 8 Jul 2022 by midcenturyjo

Don’t let its staid Georgian facade fool you. Inside the Grade II-listed townhouse in Camberwell is a maximalist’s dream. Five floors of colour and art, antiques and mid century classics. Everywhere you look is inspiration and we haven’t even ventured into the garden yet. Unfortunately for us, it is sold but I found it through  Inigo an estate agency for Britain’s most marvellous historic homes, from the team behind The Modern House.

Old world charm in California

Amber Sokolowski and Linette Dai of Soko Dai Design Studio took a 1950s home in Torrance, California that was a 90’s remodel gone bad, and created a magical home with old world charm. It’s classic and elegant and timeless. (Photography: Sara Tramp)
