BarlisWedlick

One day, when I no longer work downtown and have to worry about commuting (which is why my current house is a 30 minute walk to work), I would love to live in a home in the middle of nowhere. A home with trees and mountain views, with massive windows and soaring cielings. Idealy, a modernized barn. Many of the homes designed by New York-based architecture and design firm BarlisWedlick are essentially my dream homes. Rustic and country on the outside (with hints of modernism) and contemporary on the inside. This talented team has created lofts, penthouses, cottages, rural compounds, barns and everything else in between into gorgeous residences which I imagine are dream homes to the owners.

D. L. Rhein

Deborah Rhein is an artist and designer, and is known as the Zhush doctor. Why (or HUH) you ask? I have this uncanny ability to walk into a room and begin the transformation process in my head. It begins as something as simple as painting and re-covering an old chair to tearing down walls to create a dream kitchen. When people started calling me the Zhush doctor, I was flattered to be referred to as someone who can ‘primp and fluff’ almost anything. Deborah is certainly talented, and I am impressed with the way she blends traditional and modern furnishings to create eclectic spaces that really work. Her multi-talents lead her to open 2 successful shops in Los Angeles (and online). Here are some of her spaces that I really enjoy. I’ll take the tile floor in photo #4 – FAB!

The front façade of this beautiful Edwardian home is gorgeous, but does not provide any sort of hint as to what is found on the inside. Another incredible renovation by Robson Rak Architects. The unexpected contemporary interior is a sweet surprise, and is so bright and airy. (A collaboration with Made By Cohen). I am going to stare at the photo of the front door below for the remainder of the afternoon. *sigh*

Robson Rak Architects – Toorak

What a beautiful home by Australian architecture and design firm Robson Rak. It is a 1930’s home in Melbourne’s Toorak that already had beautiful original details (shutters, cornices, skirting boards) – this firm simply needed to update it and gave it a modern edge. The result is chic and sleek, and in the hottest colour palette of black and white. Stunning!
