Happy Canada Day fellow Canadians! It’s one of the biggest party/cottage weekends of the year and I am heading up to my sister’s cottage this morning to enjoy a (hopefully) sunny day, warm temperatures, lots of food and alcoholic beverages, and good company. I leave you with an absolutely gorgeous home in Österlen, Sweden via Hus & Hem. It’s actually a new build from 2007-8 despite looking like an old farmhouse that was renovated.

Got a problem? Need some help? Just standing there shaking your head? Don’t know what to do? You’re not alone. Send us a link to photos of your design quandary and let the Desire to Inspire design crew help you…. that’s you lot… the readers! This week’s problem is from Kelly.

I’d like to submit photos of the master bedroom in our new apartment for the design crew’s input. This wall is the only one that really works to put the bed on, but I’m stumped because of the windows being off-centered. I’d like to build an upholstered headboard, but I just feel like it will look silly covering half of the window? And I don’t want to push the bed in the corner either because then either my husband or I will have to crawl across the other to get in/out of bed! I’d love some suggestions as to what I can do to balance out this wall/make the bed/headboard work! Don’t worry- new nightstands and bedding are on the agenda as well. Thanks!

z axis design is an architecture firm based in Toronto that I recently discovered whose work is impressive. Their kitchens are gorgeous, their cabinetry is divine and I absolutely adore the front entrance that blends seamlessly with the outdoors – SO COOL!

New York City decorator Ashley Whittaker takes traditional decor to a whole new level. It’s certainly a fresh, updated, version that has much more colour and pattern than you would expect. Spaces that must bring a smile to the homeowners’ faces when they walk in each room, and make you want to sit down and hang out a while. While I gravitate towards more modern decor, I would be quite content spending time in any of these rooms.

Today I’m stalking a bijou terrace in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Elegant, refined and loaded with style. A perfect space for a single (or couple). I have my usual gripe with real estate shots. I want to see more and I want to see it better. This house reminded me how much I liked upholstered walls in a room. here it is a very traditional look but strangely I don’t mind that at all although this room has me wondering if something has been removed. A daybed? Yes I’m fantasising about a small daybed, a bateau, a sleigh bed piled with pillows and using the space as a dressing room. Oh a desk. How about a desk? Link here while it lasts.
