Maarten Baas

Posted on Mon, 2 Apr 2007 by KiM

Dutch designer Maarten Baas has quite the imagination. I was totally blown away when I saw his work. He is so talented and creative that Moooi adopted his Smoke designs and his furniture has been bought by museums and collectors such as Philippe Starck. Did I mention he is only 29 years old?

SMOKE
Burned pieces of furniture, preserved with clear epoxy.

CLAY FURNITURE: Industrial clay, hand-modeled on top of metal ‘skeletons’, surface painted with colored lacquer.

“HEY, CHAIR, BE A BOOKSHELF!”
All kinds of products became a bookshelf, coated in P.U. coating.

I love Easter. All those chocolate bunnies, the ones with the long ears. Yum. I stumbled on this site and just had to share. Matthew Mead is a stylist extraordinaire. His beautiful site is full of Easter ideas, crafts, decorating and food. To top it off there are free downloads. Check out his other seasonal offerings in the bonus section. Enjoy!

Bholu

Kim and I received an email from Jodie Fried. Jodie is the woman behind the inspired idea of bholu. The range includes cushions, throws, journals, slippers and a cute children’s range of line and cuddlies. Products are designed in Australia but brought to life by Gujarati women in India using traditional techniques and motifs drawn by children of the slums. Even better bholu is a Fair Trade company and part of the proceeds go back to the women and their communities, along with funding educational facilities for underprivileged children.

Clutter

Posted on Fri, 30 Mar 2007 by midcenturyjo

D’Ette Cole sent me pictures from last year’s Clutter as a taste of what you can expect this year. D’Ette unfortunately has sold her share of Clutter to concentrate on Etta Industry but no fear it will still be as amazing as ever. So if you’re in the vicinity of Warrenton, Texas make a bee line to this fabulous round top antique sale from March 30 to April 7.

Eric Cohler Design

I first saw Eric Cohler’s work on This Old House when he worked his magic on a barn conversion. Eric Cohler has been dubbed the “Mixmaster” for his use of contemporary materials, which, juxtaposed with classical elements, give his interiors a jolt of unusual color and texture, as well as great comfort.
