Ellis House

Posted on Thu, 30 May 2013 by midcenturyjo

A sweet dream, an escape, a wish and a wonder. Welcome to Ellis House, the country retreat of Aussie bedding queen Tracie Ellis. The Creative Director of AURA has fashioned a beautiful weekend escape at Kyneton in regional Victoria. Oh my! Oh my! You can rent it out! I would be in residence every other weekend if I lived close by. Moody, overflowing with country charm (and AURA homewares) and just fabulous! But of course. You wouldn’t expect anything else from Tracie.

P.S. The amazing photography is by Sharyn Cairns.

Quirky British

Posted on Tue, 28 May 2013 by midcenturyjo

It may have plain white walls and simple dark floors but that is all that is plain and simple about this London home. When Brits do quirky then it is all personality plus. Not sure if I could live here but I’d be always popping round for a visit. Fine pieces and found pieces and swathes and swatches. Fab house via fab locations site Shootfactory.

A funky dining space

Posted on Fri, 24 May 2013 by KiM

I found the following awesome space on The Village, and while I don’t speak Russian, Google Translate tells me this is a space created by Herculis Studio. They might be a catering business, something culinary-related anyway, and they wanted a space to meet with clients and discuss projects and organize dinners and parties for friends. Just about all of the decor and furniture was purchased at flea markets around the world. I freaking LOVE this. Jo and I are flea market/thrift junkies and this space is so much fun and quirky and super cool. I can imagine spending hours in here with friends and family feasting and chatting and having a drink or 3. (Photos by Olga Eichenbaum)

Mr and Mrs Charlie

Welcome to the wonderland home of Mr and Mrs Charlie. Charlie Kinyon, an artist working in Austin and Sydney  and Melissa Ninham creator and maker, weaver of wire and rope and dreams. Together they create and explore. This is a way of thinking, a way of living, a way of creating beauty, an expression and a statement. I love it. I wish I could live like this. (At least for a few days…. I think that is all I’d be brave enough to do.) Finding beauty in the old, the odd, the found, the discarded. You can see more on their blog and their instagram.

The Collector’s issue of THE quintessential MAGAZINE is full of the inspiring, the found, the unusual and the beautiful just like the store that gave it birth, quintessential duckeggBLUE. Dinosaur Designs’ Louise Olsen talks about the inspiration behind her new Ocean collection. Überstylist Glen Proebstel captures the magic of heartfelt treasures in New York and author Karen McCartney reveals how a misspent youth in London forged her style. And then there are the collections! Bobbins, bread boards, shoe lasts, potato mashers … how ordinary things can be extraordinary.
