Straight into my inspiration folder

I saw a couple photos of a home on Emma’s blog the other day and I swear I thought I was going to have a stroke. It’s so perfectly eclectic and funky and random that I had to post it here so I can refer to it at least once a day for the next 10 years. (It belongs to interior designer Marie Olsson Nylander, her husband and 3 children and was featured in Residence magazine).

Retro going, going, gone

Posted on Tue, 1 Jun 2010 by midcenturyjo

At last dear readers we turn the final pages of Storage, A House and Garden Book, Melinda Davis, Pantheon Books, New York, 1978. I’m sad to be finished. It was an interesting look at retro rooms that at times didn’t appear all too retro. It just goes to show that good design is timeless (and bad design a giggle many years on). I would truly move into the first home in a heart beat and the second, the bedroom, is spot on for the latest rustic southern European look sweeping blogs and magazines. Even the vintage TV is a hot collector’s item! There is the strangest fireplace that has me shaking my head. I think it’s the gold leaf ceiling and I think I like it! So retro lovers and loathers which ones push your buttons?

Off the shelf retro

I’m still flipping through the pages of Storage, A House and Garden Book, Melinda Davis, Pantheon Books, New York, 1978. Fab homes and fab ideas. I’d move right in to any of them. OK I lie. I just can’t do primary colours. Never could. So no red chairs and green walls and what I think is the world’s largest stack of Componibili storage units. I will however spend tonight dreaming of the Shaker room. Sigh.

… was a dusty volume long forgotten. A treasure trove of retro storage, a book that could just prove that everything old is new again. As I flicked from page to page I was confused. Hadn’t I seen these rooms in a recent Inside Out or Elle Decoration? I love finding a long lost book especially when it is Storage, A House and Garden Book, Melinda Davis, Pantheon Books, New York, 1978. Dreaming of moving in to any of these rooms.
