This 10,000 sq ft East Hampton NY home is what dreams are made of. The exterior is just as fabulous as the interior, and with all the warm wood used inside and the large expanse of windows everywhere it really blurs the lines between the two. Just what us northerners need to enjoy the summer months. Architecture firm: Blaze Makoid, interior design: David Scott Interiors, photos: Joshua McHugh.

Now THIS is where I would want to spend my summer. This island retreat by Seattle design firm Hoedemaker Pfeiffer is all kinds of rustic, while adding a bit of whimsy with an unconventional bedroom set-up. This project shows what happens when you focus on your strengths, defy convention, and take a few risks. The demolition of half the house made room for a camp-like setting of grand indoor spaces for gathering with great outdoor spaces for taking the sun and views, or gathering around the fire. Bedrooms were replaced by a collection of wall tents that lose nothing in luxury and gain everything in the connection to the great outdoors.

This rustic, timber clad out-house (originally designed by Eckersley Garden Architecture) has undergone a clever transformation into sophisticated guest accommodation on a rural property in Victoria’s Mornington peninsula. A beautiful site, a beautiful vine clad building and now a modern, light filled getaway redesigned by Melbourne-based Studio Esteta.

I’m almost at a loss for words. This home in Wentworth-Nord, Québec designed by Montréal architect Alain Carle is so incredibly beautiful from the outside in. Most of the wood and stone throughout the house are reclaimed and are what really make this home special. Alongside the concrete floors, plaster walls and crittall windows, it is a winning combination. Bonus points for the dark stained wood adding in some moody drama. This is everything I love. From the heady heights of a mid century classic to a humble ranch abode, is there anything Los Angeles based interior design firm Hallworth can’t put its hand to? Apparently not. I’m packing my bags to move in.
