Small spaces

Posted on Fri, 4 Apr 2008 by midcenturyjo

Real estate stalking again. What else is a girl to do on a slow Friday afternoon? I found this tiny terrace in the oldest part of my home town and I’m blown away by the small space tricks the architect (don’t know which firm unfortunately) has used here. As you can see from the outside this terrace is not much more than 4 metres across if that. Love the wall cutouts and use of glass as well as the vertical full height banisters and folding wall of windows. The decor looks a little “hired” and I’m itching to add some art and personal touches as well as shots of colour but it’s the great sense of space I’m highlighting here. Forget that the bedroom looks like the developer has bunked down for the duration and imagine what that room must be like when the bifolds are pushed back and the late summer breeze blows in. Love the view from the rear balcony over it’s teeny weeny and historic neighbours. All this less than one kilometre from the CBD.

Kim Payne

Time for another talented Australian stylist from the stable of Lizard Management. Kim Payne has a fabulous portfolio. Don’t miss her people and places where stunningly beautiful girls in summer gardens distract you from Kim’s colourful still life tear sheets. I love her take on midcentury modern and the surfer coastal riff she has going on.

I can’t decide which of the following photos from the portfolio of photographer Carl Dahlstedt I like best. They are all incredible…soaring ceilings, glossy white floors, cowhide rugs….*sigh*

Palmer Weiss

San Francisco interior designer Palmer Weiss has just been named in Domino Magazine’s Top 10 Designers for 2008. Her portfolio is modern meets southern sensibility with pops of colour and a sense of fun. Liveable and lovely her interiors meld high end with low and are elegant but family friendly. I love their bright light hearted look.
