Beth Evans

Love the quirkiness of photographer Beth Evans’ portfolio. Things are not always as they seem and bold art statements are made. Beautiful still life portfolio and her travel photos are rich and real and never precious. The camera is not supposed to lie and in Beth Evans’ hands it definitely doesn’t.

A FANTASTIC mail day!

Posted on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 by KiM

Today was one of the greatest mail days EVER!! Stuck between my screen door and front door were 2 packages that I had totally forgotten about. It was the 3 bargello pillows I won on eBay. I have developped quite an obsession for these pillows, and now own 8 of them. They are so colourful and vintage-retro looking. Perfect to hide the not so great colour of my vintage sofa.

I saved the best for last. I finally broke down and bought a cowhide rug, also on eBay, for my living room. I really wanted a “shapeless” rug because I had tried a couple of rectangular ones and they made the room look too small. It ended up being just under $200 including shipping and it arrived in less than a week. The cats love it too. Now I am for sure going to get a zebra one for my dressing room. (And no, I haven’t had time to get my chairs upholstered yet).

2 cool danish pads

I found a couple amazing house tours on the site of Danish magazine Bo Bedre, and because I couldn’t decide which to post, I decided to post both. The first is white, white, white, with some red accents for some drama.

The second one I may like a teeny bit more than the first. It’s quite the opposite – a neutral space with lots of warm earth tones and a modern ethnic vibe.

Kitchen island or harvest table?

Posted on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 by KiM

Angie wrote in yesterday looking for some inspiration for her kitchen reno:
“I am going to be renovating my 112 yr old home soon. Though the home, itself, is very traditional (10 ft ceilings, gorgeous casings and moldings, wood floors throughout) my personal tastes and decor tend toward a bit more modern. Problem: I am torn between the practicality, functionality and look of a large center island (I just love a dark brown island topped with narrow black and white marble). On the other hand, we lived in Europe for a while and I cannot get the images of old farm tables in the kitchens (surrounded by wooden and upholstered chairs) out of my head. I realize that there are advantages to both. However, I rarely see kitchens with an old farm table (in lieu of an island) in magazines these days. I know what I am getting if I go with the island, but would love to see images of old farm tables in modern kitchens. Help! And thanks!!!” I wrote back to tell her how much I ADORE a harvest table paired with modern chairs, which she loves too. I found some photos of both harvest(somewhat) tables in modern(ish) kitchens and some dark wood islands – but which to choose???!!!

A little holiday shack

Posted on Thu, 10 Apr 2008 by midcenturyjo

This is the stunning three bedroom penthouse at Netanya, a beachfront resort at Noosa just two hours north of Brisbane. With interiors deigned by Joan Moore of JDM Design this is the playground of the rich and famous. There’s a rock and roll holiday excess to this apartment. I guess an interior has to work hard to compete with such a stunning view. $6.6 million AUD and this little holiday shack is yours. For now and probably forever I’ll just lie on the beach to catch that view.
