Atelier AM

Posted on Wed, 31 Mar 2010 by KiM

Alexandra and Michael Misczynski of Atelier AM endow their work with qualities that have become increasingly rare in our culture of trendy, grab-n-go design: patina, depth, character, and soul. Their approach to design defies superficial style labels and antiquated distinctions between “traditional” and “modern”. Instead, their work is defined by connoisseurship, quality, and authenticity, regardless of the context or architectural style of a particular project. They treat Belle Epoque grandeur and 21-century minimalism with equal elegance and aplomb. Atelier AM  – it’s all about comfort, timelessness, and a global vibe, creating rooms with soul.

Axis Mundi

The design firm of New York based John Beckmann, Axis Mundi creates spaces that are contemporary and clean lined. Modern work that is concise and practical but also unique and chic. Think of it as uncluttering to provide focus. Beckmann plays with scale to provide excitement and provides just enough tension to capture your attention. It’s minimalism but with glamour.

Richard Goullet

May I interest you in a little trip to the south of France this afternoon? Lord knows Jo and I can use a little voyage away from reality (and blog problems, which we think may be fixed now). Here are some simply stunning photos from the portfolio of interior decorator Richard Goullet. The architecture and decor takes you to another era – so authentic and rustic. I am suddenly craving some bread, cheese, grapes and a big glass of red wine.

Jeff Herron

It’s the lighting I love in photographer Jeff Herron’s portfolio and particularly his understanding of artificial light. His shots of rooms lit at night are moody, his day time photos crisp and bright. But most of all his shots show how much he understands the interiors, the space, the relationship of the pieces within. He interprets the mood but never loses sight of the simple beauty. Contemporary, clean and packing punch.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 29 Mar 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!!!)

Your pets on furniture was brought to my attention by a friend of mine who knows my silly fascination with photographing my dog throughout my condo. These weren’t shot with your parameters in mind, but I think they actually may work. Photos are of Otto, my 2-1/2 year old Blue Weimaraner.

This is my dog Sophie. She is one regal bitch. I made this slipcover especially for her; note how she blends in not unlike a chameleon. Sophie likes to sit in this chair during the day so she can survey the neighbors with trademark disdain.

The way Sammy relaxes some days; resting his head on the Moroccan side table.

You might remember my friend Loni’s two cats from the submission a couple of weeks ago [here]. Here’s Raymond again, this time channeling his more eclectic side, choosing the comfy pale rose wing chair in the bedroom.

Here is a photo of Zelda and Munchie. Zel is adorning my teak dining table and Munchie is making fine use of the floor pillow. In the background is my homemade cat tree/shelf, and a framed Pantone sheet from my Etsy store. In the second photo Zelda is sitting on the built-in cabinet with the cacti, a vintage Delphite FireKing bowl and some dried japanese anemone seedpods.

I thought I’d send you a pic of my cat, Fluffsta posing so beautifully with Obama! And of course on a pile of magazines, her favorite place to be.

This is Bruno watching the Red Sox game last summer. Like all men he controls the remote!!

This is my 14 year old cat called Buffy the Vampire Slayer…the kids chose the name after the obvious and their obsession with the TV series!  We live in Canberra, Australia. She’s incredibly grumpy, loves taking a swipe (well named hey!) and always carrying on to be fed…or lounging about here when she has a perfectly good fur lined basket to sleep in!

My Lhasa/Maltese mix, Lily, loves to lounge on just about any piece of furniture she can get on…the comfier the better!

Onida and KiKi.

Belle and Sebastian named after an obscure rock group relaxing on a Saturday afternoon in Atlanta. “Hey” Sebastian says, “My eyes match the celadon green couch!” We’re here in Atlanta with our Grandmommie because our mommie went to NYC and couldn’t take us with her. Hi, mommie Erin in Brooklyn! We love you!”  – Belle and Sebastian”
