Francine Turk at Buckingham ID

Posted on Tue, 9 Nov 2010 by midcenturyjo

I love Julia Edelmann of Buckingham ID’s showroom. I want to move in. Park my slippers under that Swedish couch. I’m sure Julia would let me and now is the prefect time. Works by Chicago artist Francine Turk (you may have seen pieces on the set of the Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn movie “The Break-up”) are clustered salon style across the walls. Beautiful. So Julia when you least expect it you’ll find a strange woman (moi) draped across a chair drinking it all in. Chill the champagne. I’ll be over so.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 8 Nov 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

17 year old Muffy is still going strong. This is her yawning and stretching on a mid-century chair inherited from Nonna.

I send you some pictures of Eva resting in my bed, sorry her bed.
Carla (Argentina)

This is a photo of Bug our Miniature Schnauzer in one of his favorite places…the bed!
Evan (Los Angeles)

I visited my 5 day old niece Gianna (and my little sister and her husband) on Friday and after taking a whack of photos of the baby I managed to get some of her 2 cats Pugley (a Persian I adopted from the Humane Society several years ago) and Mini (a stray from Thailand that my sister’s friend rescued and flew with her all the way back to Canada).

Roger our cute cat who has just finished drinking out of the vase at home in Point Piper Sydney…and on the patio relaxing when we used to live in North Sydney!
– Michael (Sydney)

Here is Milo, our funny little feline.  Milo lives in Toronto, Canada and he can be seen here enjoying the sun in his favorite chair, in front of the bay window.

Fat Pussy enjoying the piano stool in the sunroom of our Kings Cross apartment.

This is Dexter, our 78 lb lap dog.  He’s a stray that we’ve been fostering for the past week, ever since he was bit by another dog and had to get stitches.  I know this chair isn’t the greatest.  I bought it off of Craigslist because I love the style, and I’ve been meaning to get it recovered, but all of our pets seem to love it just the way it is.  It’s the favorite chair in the house.  And I couldn’t resist sharing this as Dexter thinks he fits in it just fine!

Riley loves this patchwork quilt and always insists that the bed be made.

Here is my cat, Chicklet playing with my fish Sushi!  He uses her fish tank as a water bowl and the fish comes up to the surface to “visit”.  They have co-existed for 8 months like this!

This is Patches relaxing on our bed. Charlie our other dog and LuLu our cat are probably already starting their day.

Emily Johnston Anderson

Don’t you love photographer’s portfolios when every photo screams “Yes! I can do that!” Look at these fabulous spaces captured by snapper Emily Johnston Anderson. I love the light, I love the casual vibe she manages to embue in every photo. These are real homes made even more real by the way Emily captures them. Like stepping into your stylish BFF’s place. It’s effortless and it’s what a home and not just a house is all about 😉

Smith Design Group

Posted on Mon, 8 Nov 2010 by midcenturyjo

Welcome to the new week and what a great way to start.  Alena Smith of Smith Design Studio emailed us this Sydney apartment renovation. The “before” was a tired 80s apartment that had lost its way. Sad and frumpy. Now it’s a sleek and modern home with rich, moody colours, a respite from the hustle of the city. What a change from it’s previous incarnation!
