Sardines on a train

Posted on Wed, 17 Nov 2010 by midcenturyjo

I’m back! But I’m squeezed in on a commuter train with a mobile internet connection, a laptop too big for the seat space and no access to my files and bookmarks on my PC. My name is Jo and I’m a blogging addict. I still have no internet connection at home but the show must go on. Please forgive me if I take the easy way out. I’m stalking while commuting and today’s home is a bright and cheerful concrete block house in Richmond, Melbourne. Fun and quirky. A little bit modern, a little bit retro. Fingers crossed I’m connected tomorrow or I may be forced to wax lyrical about a world class designer while standing a little too close to my fellow travellers. Bye!!!!

Mark Williams

What’s that you say? You came here craving a little bit ‘o eye candy? Well, let me see what I can do to help. How about some photos from the talented Mark Williams, whom I featured once before here, that I guarantee will have you aching with envy (either because you wish your home looked even remotely as fab as these spaces, or because you can’t take a decent photograph to save your life). 🙂

Tzannes Associates

Posted on Tue, 16 Nov 2010 by KiM

Australian firm Tzannes Associates has delved into architectural, urban design and interior design services since 1983. They are award-winning and renowned for elegant and understated architecture. Their process focuses on the relationship between a building, its context and function. It would be an honour to set foot in one of the homes they have designed….and you would have to drag me out kicking and screaming.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

Mulot vs Le Corbusier

i’m pretty sure bert loves my bed more than he loves me.

This is our 19 year old cat Ollie making himself at home amongst our cushions. The clicking camera woke him up and he wasn’t very happy!
– Sara (Manchester, England)

I just bought a small apartment in the centre of Amsterdam and a small kitten to accompany it. Here you see 4 month old Billie relaxing on the arm rest of one of the two Exquis chairs (a brand apparently unknown on the internet) I bought from marketplace (the Dutch craiglist).

This is Chairman Meow next to a Kartell unit and on a window seat. This picture was taken for a post on Come Over Sunday and is owned and much loved by James and Leila who live in Marrickville Sydney.

These are my 3 cats: Aldo, who is an 18-year old stray Siamese that jumped into my arms on a rainy day on the street; Chaplin, the tuxedo and Artos, the orange cat; both of them rescues, also. Aldo has recently discovered the cubbyhole that I cut into the sideboard. The sideboard/chest used to be a mid-century music cabinet, which I found on the curb. I gutted the interior and where the speakers used to be, cut out a hole and lined it with fleece. It makes for a little cat-cave and my cats take turns to claim it. I recently painted the walls with stripes and adding the key-collection to make the entry-hall look like a curio-cabinet.”

This a photo from one of our commercial photo but our little Lagotto puppy Ramon who always want to be in center of attention choose to take a little nap during set. The photographer found him sleeping after a break and as you understand this in now our favorite.

just had to share a pic of our labradoodle with you… her name is Amici ( a- mee- chee )… she has a coat as long as your pooch but I’ve just cut her with a pair of humans hair clippers :-)… it sort of worked !… we have another Labradoodle too… a big cream colour one  called Marcello… but he’s the good dog… he doesn’t sit on the furniture !

I love my vintage chair and my cat who is always hungry. I’m sure he was also when I was taking this picture..
– Marta (Cracow, Poland)

This is Bailey, at night she often disappears into other rooms in our house.  I can usually find her on the couch in the living room or snuggling up in the guest room.  She also likes to rearrange blankets and pillows to suit her comfort.
– Meghan (Philadelphia, PA)

Here are two pictures of my chihuahuas Lilly (tan) and Miloh (black and white). They are perched in their favorite spot in the formal living room at my parent’s house.
– Hannah (Connecticut)

This is a picture of our 1 and a half year old cat Duffy sitting on a marble top side table.  He really thinks he owns the place.  And I’m starting to think it’s true...”

More from Petra Bindel

Posted on Mon, 15 Nov 2010 by KiM

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I’m filling in for Jo this morning as she is hopefully having a smooth move into her new home. I haven’t spoken to her since Thursday – our only method of communication is via IM and I imagine she hasn’t had her internet hooked up yet. I’m dying to hear how things are going and to see photos of her home. Anyhoo, I found myself on the website of Swedish photographer Petra Bindel the other day and I thought I’d post an update since it’s been almost 2 years since Jo blogged about her work. I’m a huge fan as she’s made the rounds of many Swedish magazines with her somewhat raw and organic photos that are a glimpse into beautiful spaces, like a tease to the eye. Yummy.
