Monday’s pets on furniture – part 1

Posted on Mon, 26 Sep 2011 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to  desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

Although she isn’t technically a ‘pet’, this is Olive an orphaned wombat which my parents hand-reared and released into the wild at their Farm in North-east Victoria. Here, Olive is pictured on one of the furniture pieces designed and crafted by my father.

Pete…my 20 year old cat on “his” couch. I don’t even try to sit on it anymore.

Here is my cat Harris lounging on my Danish hutch that I found at the Salvation Army amongst my mid-century ceramics collection.  Luckily he isn’t really able to knock anything over since it is all earthquake puttied down.

We just got a new couch – antique, blue velvet… yum.  Our cat, Maggie, clearly approves of our choice!

This is George, our 3 year old British Blue.  He’s not very clever, but he strikes a good pose!

This is my foster cat, Blossom. She’s sitting on a chair I reupholstered with hand-dyed fabric. Blossom is up for adoption (details HERE), and I hope she finds a forever home with lots of comfy chairs.
– Jen (Toronto)

His name is Odin, a Great Dane/Saint Bernard this is his favorite spot to nap. To give you an idea of how big he is: I am 5’4″ and I can curl up in that chair!
– Dezi (Washington State)

Wanted to share my two cute and fluffy cats that always find the most random places at home to hang out.

I'm kind of in love with the oversized scrabble tiles on Jen's wall (above Maggie). Anyone know where to find them? (and can anyone score better than JAW out of those letters – 13 pts)

Kyle says:

Found where to get those scrabble tiles!:

christa says:

Kyle, thanks for finding the scrabble tiles. Love! And I can beat your JAW with QUAY (use the blank tile).

Andrea from Australia says:

I LOOOOOOVE Odin – that is just so funny, what a lucky dog!

Supal says:

That wombat is so adorable, and I absolutely LOVED the drawers! so unique and perfect marriage of wood and metal

Cata says:

I agree with Karen, the chest of drawers the wombat is enjoying is incredibly amazing! And of course loved all the adorable pets!

This is Jen with the oversized Scrabble Tiles (above Maggie). They were actually a DIY. There's a tutorial on my blog here:

It's not too hard and a lot cheaper than buying them 🙂

Kyle says:

Thanks Jen – great DIY project. I was considering trying to make these myself, but was getting hung up on having to rout out the letters, but painting them seems like a great compromise to save some $$$!

Kim says:

I love all of these guys – Olive the first wombat on furniture I've seen, and Odin had me laughing out loud! But I'm very curious about Harris and the earthquake putty. How does that work? Does it stick to the finish? My cat gets into everything, so I have sort of resigned myself to not having any nice vignettes up until now.

JANE says:

What breed is Mr. Lucky Waggers? He is sure cute! Mid-Century Hep Cat is a relative of mine. He is sooo hep on his Eames!
