The best of both worlds

Posted on Tue, 6 Sep 2011 by KiM

One minute I love modern…and the next minute I love rustic. Every now and then I come across a home that has both, but this home is pretty much the extreme of what is modern and rustic. It is located in Jaffa, Tel Aviv and from what Google translator told me, it is at least a century old and has been restored and modernized. I am taken with the juxtaposition of the stone arches with the polished concrete floors and sleek cabinetry and furnishings. (via Mimdap)

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 5 Sep 2011 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to  desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

This is our new 12 week old puppy Sallly…she seems to love our white, leather chair…I don’t know if that’s a “good” thing or not…I am going with not…
– Niki (Seattle, Washington)

Meet Wally, a sweet handful of Yorkie Terrier. In addition to Wally on furniture, I’ve also included photos of Wally under furniture.

Attached is a picture of Henry, our 4 month old fox red lab, on “his” couch – the only couch he is welcome. He loves it.

Pippin think she is much more important than anything else on this sofa table.

These are my pets: the cocker is called Nacha, and the chocolate labrador is Simon.

My Min Pin, Sneak, strikes her best Mid-Century modern pose on a friend’s ottoman in Chicago.

Our three adopted kittens who are 12, 12 and 9 years of age but are forever kittens to us:  Jack on our Ralph Lauren duvet, Joey (Daddy’s little girl) below my abstract painting of her Dad, and Riley on my computer bench which I lean over to work on the computer so that she can have her cat nap.
– Sue (Naperville, IL)

That’s my cat Bambi. I was setting the table for lunch and she decided she wanted to be part of the menu, haha.

Design Crew

Posted on Sat, 3 Sep 2011 by midcenturyjo

Got a problem? Need some help? Just standing there shaking your head? Don’t know what to do? You’re not alone. Send us a link to photos of your design quandary and let the Desire to Inspire design crew help you …. that’s you lot… the readers! A few weeks back Chase emailed me.

Chase – I have a new home I’m purchasing and its needs some help! Could you post this house to see what the readers think about ideas!?

Jo – If I put it up as a Design Crew post is there anything in particular you want them to “discuss”? Anything that really has you stumped? Warning though. Some of our readers are starting to play tough and may hurt your feelings 🙂 If you are fine with that then I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

Chase – The front of the house is what I would really like some help with. The inside is pretty much a blank canvas so any ideas for design would be great. Overall, just what readers have in mind. I would like to come back once I’ve finished to show the final product. As far as getting my feelings hurt goes, it’s the Internet… Peoples opinions are all over the place! I appreciate it 🙂

OK you heard Chase. Go for it.

Neutral and natural

Posted on Fri, 2 Sep 2011 by KiM

The following photos are going into my inspiration folder for the decor of my home whenever we get our renovations/addition done (which might not happen until the spring…and I am beyond pissed off at this point). Neutral colours (I would like a bit more black), natural materials, modern, airy and slightly miminal. All of these factors make for a calm and relaxing home which I desperately crave.
