I spent yesterday at my sister’s cottage, enjoying what is likely the last decent weekend of the summer (although I did have jeans and a hoodie on for most of the day…this time of year is SO depressing). This means I did not have time to get a blog favourites post ready. Instead, I thought I would just keep this random with some items I have on hand.

First up, some photos I took Friday since I had the day off work and decided to spend a couple minutes rearranging some pieces in my living room. I LOVE this lamp that I bought at Homesense a while back and have had it crammed in a corner of my bedroom since it came home with me. I decided to move it next to the front door alongside my black Eames leather side chair, and switch out my Mexican tin mirror with my huge beaded rosary (also picked up in Mexico). Nothing too exciting but with no renovations on the horizon for this year I’m back to giving a sh*t what my house looks like. Because that Eames chair is a favourite of Felix, he has claimed the chair in the majority of these photos.

Despite the following action being out of focus, I thought it was hilarious that I managed to capture a little brawl.

Remember Tom’s fabulous apartment that I blogged on Wednesday? Well, his apartment was filmed for a promotional video for his building and he just received a link to it on YouTube. Check it out!

One last quick item: Yesterday I came across the following photo of a kitchen that I found rather odd. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an island shaped like this before. I’m thinking a large rectangular (read ‘normal’) island would have made more sense…

Hi! Just dropping in quickly to pop up a reading guide. I’m running around like a crazy thing this weekend having fun. There are friends to see, thrifting to do, the painter has started (!!!), new business plans are hatching, my design mojo is back and I’m prepping for a dinner party tonight. Standing rib roast for the carnivores and a pumpkin, sage and caramelised onion bread and butter pudding for the lone vegetarian (we’ll fight her for it though). Hope your weekend is as fabulous as mine. Enjoy the reading guide!

Heather sent us the following request: I have a fantasy in which I own a cottage and of course it has one (or more) alcove beds–you know, those beds that are built right into the wall, sometimes with drawers or a trundle underneath, sometimes with a window in the nook itself? Can you put together a collection of those? I would love to see it, if only to fuel the fantasy. I LOVE the idea of sleeping/reading nooks, tucked away in corners. And sleeping arrangements at a cottage is always a dilemma because the more the merrier, and squeezing in as many potential “beds” as possible is always a must. Plus, you can get away with being an adult and sleeping in a not-so-ordinary bed, which in my mind is a total bonus. Many of the photos I found are of children’s rooms but translate so well into ideal beds at a cottage. (P.S. Check out this post I did on napping nooks, and this one on couches in alcoves).

I have 2 reader requests for you guys today, and this first one comes from Kayla: I was wondering if you have any inspiration on how to combine beige and grey in one room – particularly in the bedroom. We have a custom-made beige built-in wardrobe (there when we moved in) that we can’t afford to replace. I don’t like it and so I’ve been stalling on decorating the bedroom since we moved in (over a year ago). I think I just need to work with it and so I’d like to mix in some greys to make it more contemporary. Any ideas? My first thought of course is paint it if you don’t like it. If you’re worried doing it yourself you could remove the doors and have them professionally sprayed. Otherwise, I think if it’s a soft beige I think adding alot of light grey, some beige in your bedding, and hints of black and white would work. If it’s a darker beige, I would maybe go for browns instead of grey. I found some photos that do both, including one with a black accent wall that you could consider to draw attention away from the wardrobe. The first photo is my favourite. Jewel toned accents (you could do more than a couple purple pillows) bring in that needed pop of colour. Hope this helps!

End of the week real estate stalking. Today I’m lurking around this whole floor apartment in the old Maples Warehouse in South Yarra. Lots of white tempered with rich neutrals, almost as many living areas as days of the week, sunny balconies and killer suburb in Melbourne, Australia. I’m already figuring out what furniture to give away and more importantly what I would bring in. If only the bank manager would say yes. At least I have a lottery ticket for tomorrow night.
