Freedom giveaway

Yay! It’s competition time on Desire to Inspire! What? A competition? But DTI never does competitions. Remember the Freedom Furniture Winter 2012 sneak peek a few weeks ago? That rug? The absolutely fabulous Bazaar rug! Freedom realised how much you loved it and well one thing led to another and bingo! A chance to win one for your own. Second prize is the super cool Danish designed Hangover table lamp. Now the bad news… the competition is only open to Australian and New Zealand readers because, well, Freedom only has stores in Australia and New Zealand and that’s where you will pick up your prize. Now the good news…. the competition is only open to Australian and New Zealand readers which means the odds will be amazing for Australian and New Zealand readers!
Here’s what you need to do to get one of those gorgeous rugs on your floor. Not your average A-frame

I have always thought A-frame cabins where the cutest things ever. I am a fan of the graphic shape but this A-frame “cabin” goes above and beyond. This is quite the minimalist and modernist take on your typical A-frame structure. I freaking love it – especially the exaggerated peak. (Thanks to my BIL for the link to this William O’Brien Jr. designed cabin!)
Reader request – brass and gold

I haven’t done a reader request in ages, because I don’t seem to ever have enough time to rifle through my photo stash anymore (I have 2 days off work hence my ability to magically find a bit of time now). I think these started getting more difficult when Jo and I each started trying to blog twice a day and then I went and started this blog with my sister. Anyway, feel free to continue sending requests but try and make it reeeeeeally interesting and something that can be easily spotted in a tiny thumbnail to increase your chances of me getting to it. 🙂
SO, today’s request comes from Christi: I’m a design student from BC, and I’d love to see some blog posts with brass and gold contemporary hardware and fixtures. I’m obsessed with the few I’ve seen, and I think the contrast with cooler paint and material tones is stunning. I was never a fan of anything gold, but I am slowly coming around. I still shy away from using it as silver seems to be so much easier. This one was a bit tough to find in my tiny Flickr thumbnails but I think I scored some decent photos, and because I have a thing for copper – particularly Tom Dixon’s copper shade lights – I took this opportunity to slide a couple in. 🙂

House in the dunes

After the beach-side house just beyond the dunes from earlier this week I though I’d share another. Just a little different. Or is it? What do you think? (And yes there are 4 bedrooms with bath in room and ensuite!) The Dune House by Norwegian architects JVA (Jarmund/Vigsnæs AS Arkitekter MNAL) and built on the shore in Thorpness, England is available for holiday rental.
Architecture needs relationship… Architecture ought to be interesting rather than pretty… Architecture should be exiting, not just satisfying… Architecture is not just about the money.
Opposite ends of the spectrum

Both of these homes have been featured lately in Residence magazine and I wanted to blog one, then the other, no the first one, but what about the second….so what the hell I’ll blog both. Both homes are gorgeous, the first because of the soothing and earthy neutral palette and the second because of the bold colour scheme and modern vibe. I want my home to look like the first, and then I need to win the lottery so the cottage I would then buy could look like the second. 🙂 (Photos by Carl Dahlstedt)
