Making a splash … an urban splash

Posted on Mon, 25 Mar 2013 by midcenturyjo

Loving this extension and renovation by Sydney renovations and interior decorating firm Urban Splash. White, bright and playful this family home is creative and fun. A canvas of white walls allows quirky colour accents to shine through. Wallpapered stair risers? Yes please. I would have loved to have called one of the children’s rooms mine growing up and the bathrooms are simple but standout with their pattern tiles across floors and climbing up walls. It’s a stylish home, casual and practical with a definite wow factor.

Blue Belle at Bondi

Posted on Mon, 25 Mar 2013 by midcenturyjo

Monday already? Oh no! I can’t face it! I’m running away to the beach at Bondi in Sydney. I’m taking this cute as a button holiday apartment for a week or two. It goes by the name of Blue Belle. If only I could! The perfect base for relaxation and exploration. Neutral interiors with raw woods and rattan with accents of red and blue. Industrial meets beach chic and rustic and loads of lovely light. Interiors and design by Kathy Collins of Urban Splash.

To all my fellow Ottawans out there, if you’re looking for something to do the weekend after Easter, come on out to the Ottawa Antique Show (or as I like to call it the Ottawa Vintage Goodies Show) at Carleton U April 5-7. The show’s organizers have asked me to come out and pick out all of my favourite items at the show (perhaps I had better leave my wallet at home – I could be in trouble) so I’ll be there Friday for that. We can hang out, shop around, discuss what antique/vintage items rock, whatever. They’ve got everything, from furniture to jewelry and designer handbags (YES!). Here’s a link to their website, and their Facebook page for more info. Here is a peek at some past shows.

Casa Federica

Posted on Sat, 23 Mar 2013 by midcenturyjo

Help! I am working 16 hours a day at the moment. Too many jobs. Too many exciting projects coming to fruition. I need a holiday. Even just a weekend break. But alas! Looks like it will have to be a “virtual” holiday instead. You’ll find me here in my dreams this weekend. Casa Federica in the rolling hills of Noto in Sicily. A minimalist box perched above the sparse landscape with views to the sea. Still and stylish. A perfect retreat.
