The cook’s kitchen

Posted on Tue, 10 Dec 2013 by midcenturyjo

I had to revisit the MAKE architecture portfolio. There was a kitchen renovation I had to share. The kitchen/dining area of this art deco home was upgraded so that the owners could run a cooking school. Large enough to allow for classes, intimate enough for day to day living. I love the interplay of the black with the timber and the gleam of metallic highlights, the art deco style glass and steel doors and the rustic dining table. I would love to cook here. More importantly I would love to share my food with family and friends here.

Coogee apartment

Posted on Tue, 10 Dec 2013 by midcenturyjo

The renovation and extension of this 1930s duplex by Virginia Kerridge Architect saw a double height box added behind the building extending the lower floor apartment. The contemporay space provides a kitchen dining area above and an intimate sitting area that opens to a pool. “The concept behind the scheme was to leave the existing building in close to original condition with the addition being treated as a “box” for living in…” Please Santa. I’ve been a good girl this year. Could you leave an extension just like this behind my house this Christmas morning?

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 9 Dec 2013 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

May I introduce to you, Randy. As you can see in this picture, Randy is a very content cat. This reads, “Life is good”.
– Theresa & Randy (Queens, NY)

Simson and Pepsi resting.
– Margareta

Boots (black and white tuxedo) and TomTom (grey and white tuxedo) sleeping admist the winter scarves pulled out to sort on the bed. The chair in the corner is an old family piece I reupholstered. The wood got painted because it was in such bad shape.
Boots was a shelter cat and TomTom a stray who when returned to his owners kept returning to our house. He adopted us or more likely our 2 female cats were the attraction.
– Judy (Almonte, Ontario)

I love all the pet pics you put out there, so I decided to send my a picture of my baby Shih tzu, Lexie, seated at a Seagrass Wingback Armchair.
– Jacqueline (Birmingham, Alabama)

Attached please find my 2 rescue cats. We have been living together since May 2007. They are snuggled in their favorite chair (formerly my favorite chair.) Note the claw marks on the legs. The grey cat destroys it when I ignore him or am not at home. Ce la vie.
– Marissa (Waukegan, Illinois)

This is Luke Skywalker, a 3 years old adopted cat. Personally, I think It’s my best decoration furniture <3

Monday beauty

Posted on Mon, 9 Dec 2013 by midcenturyjo

I’m facing my Mondayitis. I’m not running away to a virtual bolt hole. My new solution is a strong dose of something beautiful. Today I’m in love with this glorious photograph by Beth Evans. Drink it in. Stay still. Sigh it out. Done.
