Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 13 Jan 2014 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused then it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet! Thanks!

A little color to (hopefully) brighten up the winter time. This is Christmas looking out the back yard chairs…and a bonus pic of his handsome mug on the same spot.
– Pam

I thought I would share this photo taken through our double sided fireplace into the living room while it was snowing and -10 degrees over the weekend. Front and center is Tina, our 6-month-old puppy, to the left is Buddy, my mom’s mutt, and on the right is Bailey, our 9-year-old “puppy”. It’s a shame you can’t see how sparkling clean our floors are with those three running in and out of the snow all day! PS my husband built the coffee table! 🙂

Cooper prefers leather
– Irene

We have a attached a photo of our cat Ilse peeking from one of her favorite hangouts – the bookshelf in our living room (she’s very much an academic).
– Corinna & Ben (Jackson Heights, NY)

My red cat Missô on top of the water filter :p
– Marcia (Marília, São Paulo, Brasil)

Buddy is my parents’ bichon frise, and he is now learning to read so he can help entertain the grandkids. He prefers the old-school books that were my mothers’ books when she was a child. In the first picture he is smiling because his paw is on the page with a cat!
– Glenda (Vernon, BC)

And a quick one from me – Mimin sitting in a vintage apple basket on top of a bookshelf in my bedroom (she’s a climber).

Monday getaway

Posted on Mon, 13 Jan 2014 by midcenturyjo

Run away! Run Away! It’s Monday. Let’s keep the weekend going with a virtual getaway to the Hospedería Convento de La Parra in the Extremadura region of Spain. We could call it a retreat. It is a 17th century convent after all.

“Sorry. You are not going to find a television set here, not even a radio tuner. Only spaces for reading, a table for playing board games, corridors for reflection, cloisters that will bring back to you the smell of orange blossom, lime, wood, rest, peace, water and sun.”

Aaaahhh! A heavenly cure for Mondayitis.

Shiny bright and new

Older apartments have a lot going for them. They are often bigger and, dare I say, better built but what you gain in extra square metres and solid walls is counterbalanced by tired old decorating schemes and years of use and abuse. Tart the old dears up and that’s a different story. The scope of work in this William St, Melbourne apartment included renovating the bathroom and kitchen and the addition of an entertainment unit in the living area. Shiny, bright and new. Mid-century mod

I think this house is reason enough to move to Salt Lake City – would you agree? Mid-century modern homes are one of my favourite styles – simple architecture but with just enough funk, floor to ceiling windows, often all on one level, a bit of stone detail…. This home has it all and I’d love move in in a heartbeat. Details @ cityhomeCollective.

Saturday work place

Posted on Sat, 11 Jan 2014 by midcenturyjo

It’s Saturday. Most of us are relaxing far away from the workplace grind. We don’t have to return to the hamster wheel to earn our living until Monday. If this was my workplace though I’d never want to come home. Too cool. Melbourne interior designers Mr Mitchell explain the idea behind the Blonde Robot offices the best.

“Three young forward thinking business partners had a simple goal with the fit-out of their brand new head office: make it look like a cool pub. Being based in the centre of an industrial area, the closest cold beer was too far for knock off drinks. They wanted to create a warm, relaxed environment that provided their team with the pub you have, when you’re not having a pub.”
