Stalking a kitchen island

Posted on Tue, 20 May 2014 by midcenturyjo

I’m stalking this house for the kitchen. Now you see it, now you don’t island bench and the wall of plants, the view out to the deck and the lovely light. A brick bungalow in Kensington, Sydney keeps its architectural details but is slick and clean lined with its renovation. Did I mention the lovely light? Link here while it lasts.

P.S. It’s a Häcker kitchen.

Still can’t get enough of the Swedish look. You know, the black, white, mixed with wood, softened by the green of indoor plants and brought to life with everyday personal pieces look. It’s simple. It’s stylish. A touch of boho, a midcentury Scandi classic, an artful tumble of clothes or shoes or toys and the obligatory sheepskin. Loving these rooms from stylist Emma Hos. Black and white beauties for the every day.

A mid-century home in California

Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014 by KiM

My love for mid-century homes continues. Today I bring you a home in Carmel, Califonia that was renovated by architects Carver + Schicketanz. The owners were looking for an extra bedroom as well as a new kitchen and bathrooms. It is now the perfect blend of mid-century and modern, in its architecture as well as furnishings. I am swooning over the windows by the front entrance, and even the “rickety” fence.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s pets on furniture post, please ensure your photos follow these basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net. Thanks!

Snapped this photo of my 7 month old doxie on my Louis Ghost. 🙂

Winnie loves lounging on our bed, especially on our Australian alpaca blanket.

Toby a rescue dog from Austin,Texas now residing in Dallas. He was just groomed and seems very aware of his cuteness. He love pillows and cushions and often rearranges them for his comfort.

Speaking of those big windows with deep ledges, we’ve got those (or rather, my mother does) in her lovely flat’s kitchen in the middle of Stockholm. This was just too cute not to share, it’s our baby kitten Sylvester – or Sly – in his favourite spot. He was a farm cat destined for a bag in the river until I saved him last summer and brought him home with me. Now he spends all his time on this window sill with a perfect view of the happenings down on the ground, as well as a perfect distance to the fridge for a snack every now and then.

1 – This is Dirk, our nine year old rescue lab mix. He loves this loveseat. Company was coming so we put pillows on the sofa in order to gussey it up as well as keep Dirk off of it. As you can see, this ploy did not work with Dirk.
2 – This is Louie – our rescue Tabby. He sleeps wherever he darn pleases.

The garden library

Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014 by midcenturyjo

Down at the end of the garden is where you would normally find a folly. But how can you call a garden library a folly? Created by Czech firm Mjölk Architects, this fibreglass and wood box provides a reading room, a sleeping floor, a perch to observe your literary kingdom and of course books, glorious books. My head is swimming with possibilities. Just where in my garden will I place mine?
