Winnie Au

There is only so much frou-frou, karate-chopped pillows and symmetry I can handle. So when I came across the portfolio of NYC photographer Winnie Au, I was pleasantly surprised to discover the when she shoots interiors, they appear to be spaces decorated by them regular folk. 🙂 And she has a knack at capturing pets in their finest moments.

Monday’s pets on furniture

Posted on Mon, 11 Aug 2014 by KiM

If you would like to send me photos to include in next week’s pets on furniture post, please ensure your photos follow these basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, if the photo is too dark or unfocused it may not make the cut. Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net. Thanks!

It’s a chair I found on the street and upholstered with… an Ikea couch cover and the serigraphy is from one of my old friend. Usually Elvis loves to lay on the couch but that day he settled there !

Sunday is enjoying the new ottoman, and Lily is enjoying that she stole Sunday’s old spot on the sofa.

1 – Please find attached “Daan” our twelve year old tiger who is king of our garden in Amsterdam and enjoys the good life on One To Sit (Dutch Design) sofa , next to Victoria and Albert chairs (Moroso).
2 – This is our Abbey: 2 years ago we found her disabled and mistreated/constantly screaming on balcony neighbour: we were able to adopt her….now she enjoys  a comfortable life on a Corbusier LC 4 or an Eames in Amsterdam….

These are photos of our pet, Poppy, a miniature Schnauzer.

I was trying to take some photos of the new colour on my walls (Benjamin Moore’s Flurry), which is a massive improvement on the “poo brown” that was there before.  Jaimie decided to photo bomb me and to insert her blue mouse into the frame as well.  She was rescued at about 4 weeks old and only 8 ounces, looking very much like a small rat, with dire predictions that she would not live to see the next day.  Today, she is a feisty 8-year old madam who bosses her “brother” around even though he is about three times her size.  My media unit is from Ikea, the coffee table is from Wicker Emporium’s sale section as it has a crack in the wood that only adds to its charm in my opinion, and the pots were a gift from a friend who went back to Australia.

1 – This is my 7 year old rescue Charly, sitting in my new armchair which I’ve desperately wanted for a while which was to be off limits to both her and pepe my dog… Without luck!
2 – This is my 7 year old rescue Pepe who I adopted 4 years ago, who’s seized a chance to take Charly’s spot on my new chair!

I want to be here. Now. Please. Imagine having a little getaway at the end of the garden, on an island, down on the lake, maybe by the sea. A bit of grass, a lot of water and this. Here. Now. Please. By Dutch architectural firm 2by4.

Hess Hoen

Oh dear lord help me! I don’t know where to start. I can’t find the words to describe how much I love this harbour side home in Sydney by Hess Hoen. Old meets new. Layers of texture and simple luxury. Stone and oak and linen and tile. Oh my! It has me flustered in the very best way.
