Dominion Road House

Posted on Thu, 14 Jul 2016 by KiM

Melbourne based interior architecture and design firm Sisällä has me loving them all over again with this Dominion Road House project (a previous feature here). The original charm of the house sits beautifully alongside the new interior ‘barn’ style addition. The design needed to function seamlessly for modern family life however aesthetically it needed to be sympathetic to the historical nature of the house. The interior design sits comfortably within the context of the house without being a pastiche of the older style. Careful consideration of the interior layout ensured that the barn was visually connected to the house. Custom cabinetry using beautiful yet durable materials, alongside the furniture, lighting and décor provides a beautiful backdrop to family life. Succulent

No not juicy and lip smacking. No, succulent as in the plant. An inner city Melbourne backyard has turned its back on lawn and straggly shrubs instead embracing a cutting edge, or should that be sharp, specimen garden. Urban cool to get your creative garden juices flowing by Eckersley Garden Architecture.

House like Village

Take on old harbour cantina on an island in Amsterdam and an architect with lofty ideas, and you end up with a set of 4 residential lofts that are every modernists’ dream. By Marc Koehler Architects

A relook at Mapesbury Road

It has been a few years since Jo featured Mapesbury Road, the home of stylist Marianne Cotterill. This utterly covetable home is currently available for shoots via 1st Option and they kindly sent over lots of juicy photos. This home speaks to me on so many levels. The architecture alone is incredible, then add in all of the absolutely stunning vintage furnishings and the heart palpitations begin. I can see myself forever moving pieces around from room to room trying out different combinations. I love this sooooo much. Thank you 1st Option for the reminder of how fabulous this home is.

Stalking two on a Tuesday

Posted on Wed, 13 Jul 2016 by midcenturyjo

It’s two for Tuesday, not pizza but properties I’ve been stalking. The first is a moody, masculine apartment in inner-city Sydney while the second, in the Melbourne suburb of Malvern, is a modern extension to an Edwardian house by architect Geoff Challis with landscape design by Rick Eckersley. You can find the links here and here while they last.

Addendum: Hmmm it’s actually Wednesday and I’ve been blithely carrying on as if it was Tuesday. Wednesday not Tuesday. Sad thing is I can’t remember where my Tuesday went. Apologies over 🙂
