In case you weren’t sure what your dream home looked like, I found it for you. You’re welcome. A bespoke home nestled and perched atop a hill in the Oaks in Hollywood hills, the residence was born out of desire for highly considered design within a modest footprint. A perfect fusion of two worlds, old and new with industrial chic and old-world interiors. An impressive achievement that looks to the tradition of medieval Irish castle and incorporates it into a contemporary California lifestyle. A new and different nod to Case Study Houses as the house continues to further explore the ideological image of intersecting spatial realms and portrays a contemporary commanding presence a top the Hollywood hills. Another impressive project by Mutuus Studio.

✅ Tree bought from a local nonprofit. ✅ Decorated with almost all thrifted vintage ornaments. (Shiny Brites forever!!!) ✅ Throw blanket strategically 'thrown' around the bottom as a tree skirt. ✅ Christmas records collected from flea markets spinning just out of shot. ✅ Small and snuggly dog. It might sound overstated or even trivial, but this photo is a mark of success for me. None of the things I just listed are overly expensive or even difficult to acquire, but this photo feels like a success story. ❤️ In years past, I couldn't afford a tree or didn't have the space for one. That's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, last year I got creative and cut down a tree from my yard! (It had to come down anyway. And I planted one to replace it in a sunnier spot.) 💪 But this year I saved money in advance. (I can't stress enough how important it is to save for not just presents, but also other holiday expenses. I never did that before and I was always feeling broke by January.) And I feel like I'm closer to matching my values with the holiday this year. 🤞 As a self-proclaimed minimalist, I struggle with such a consumerist holiday, but I'm finding ways to thrift, upcycle and simply do less this holiday season. And I feel more at peace than I had before. How do you match the holidays with your values? Can you tell that one of my models wasn't at all happy about posing for the camera? Mojo (on the left) has definitely perfected his grumpy old man face 😒Whoever it was that made up the saying about herding cats had clearly never met a cocker spaniel in their life 😂 . . . #dtipetsonfurniture #dogsindecor #dogsinmyhouseandhome #cockersofinstagram #spoodlesofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #dogmodels #goodboys #outdoorlivingspace #outdoordecor #wickerfurniture #wickerwednesday #petsonfurniture #gardenroom #realinstahomes #realhomesofinstagram #instareality #homesquared #thiscreativehome #howimonochrome #nzhouseandgarden #yourhomeandgarden #houseandgarden #postitandsmile #styleithappy #cockerspanielclub #cockapoo #cockerspanielcuties

Sunday dining at a restaurant

Posted on Sun, 8 Dec 2019 by KiM

Sunday dinners are typically help at my parents’ house as an excuse to get the family together. And I welcome the one day a week (aside from pizza night) where I don’t have to cook. But if I didn’t have my mom’s cooking to look forward to, dinner out would be a sweet alternative. And maybe in Seattle at Samara – a wood-fueled bistro designed by Mutuus StudioInside, rich earth tones dominate, bringing to mind a tranquil wooded understory. Dark-stained oak paneling and wainscoting wrap a portion of the space and the bar front, while the balance of the space features a section of the building’s original firewall that was revealed during construction. The firewall is composed of framing timber turned on its side, and now provides a subtle homage to the cooking method of choice. Seating for 30 is handled through a mix of seating groups featuring anti-tip tables topped with wood recycled from old piers, and a leather banquette. A chef’s counter, finished in soapstone, seats an additional six guests. Copper cladding wraps the area above the grill features a rich patina, and hand-made Danish brick, embedded with fused glass, surrounds the grill to create a delicate dance of firelight.

Working on a Saturday

Posted on Sat, 7 Dec 2019 by midcenturyjo

It’s like I say time and time again. If you have to drag yourself into work on a weekend it helps if it’s somewhere stylish. Rachel Comey LA by Elizabeth Roberts Architects. (Can we just file that rattan wall bench straight into our inspiration folders please?)

Yes it’s a trophy house. Large by Australian stanards, luxury finishes, swimming pool and desirable address but it has one thing that is really tickling my fancy. A circlular window or should I say circular cutout in a part wall/part staircase in a wall of glass. I love the geometry, the drama. Real estate stalking in Melbourne’s Kew. Link here while it lasts.
