FMD Architects

Fiona Dunin is the driving force behind Melbourne based design firm FMD Architects. Trained as both an architect and an interior designer her work focuses on materials and their use within her spaces. It’s a modern look that is not precious but honest and obvious. It’s not about hiding with layers but being out and proud in a way. There are clever storage solutions and light, always lots of light streaming in… perhaps not with the black bunkers 😉 but these stand in stark contrast to the Australian landscape. Simple, clean lines making maximum impact.

Kira Brandt

Let’s start the day (or end it if you are on this side of the world) with bright and cheerful loveliness snapped by Danish photographer Kira Brandt. Those bulbs just make me smile. Not too long now until winter ends in this part of the world and I’m gathering spring inspiration from Kira’s portfolio. These images tick all the boxes. Retro boho, real homes, gorgeous flowers, sunny yellows and blissful blues. The woman has a great eye!

Simplicity of design and honesty of materials. Inspiring in its minimalism. It’s all about turning constraints into opportunities, of recognising the limitations then going beyond them. Honesty, responsibility and creativity. Welcome to the portfolio of Barcelona based architects Emiliano López and Mónica Rivera.

Elodie Rambaud

I love the portfolio of French stylist Elodie Rambaud. One moment boho modern with white floors and fabulous textiles, the beauty of the everyday celebrated. The next moment her work is otherworldly, out of focus and almost out of reach. It’s dreamy and light. Clients include Inside Out, Donna Hay magazine and Côté Est magazine. Secretly I want rooms filled with branches and flowers slowly decaying and turning more beautiful with age. Found objects and everyday life. Sigh.

Reader’s home

I love seeing inside reader’s homes. I especially love it when those homes are in far away places. Sylvia emailed with some pictures of her newly refurbed home in Singapore. Just a few pictures but enough to know that I really want Sylvia’s pink Egg Chair! Her dining table is cool too. “The dinning table was custom-made, my husband and I just described to the carpenter what we wanted and he made this interesting piece, quite close to what we have imagined.” Space is at a premium in a heavily populated island nation like Singapore and it’s great to see stylish small homes. I think I know the kids’ favourite spot 😉
