A renovated Art Deco apartment in Darling Point, Sydney, home to Kate Nixon of Busatti Australia and her family, is full of charm and character as well as the beautiful Italian fabrics that Nixon imports. A neutral palette allows for accents of pattern and colour to take the limelight while delightful vignettes provide the eye candy.

They’re calling it a micro apartment but it’s got more than enough room for me. What it lacks in size it definitely makes up for in style. Are you noticing more and more 80s influences appearing in rooms these days? Or is it just me because I lived (make that thrived) through the decade? The 30 sq m London apartment is by Play Associates.

The renovation of this 140 m2 art nouveau apartment in the Eixample district in Barcelona has resulted in a beautiful light-filled, airy home which respects the property’s original elegance while providing contemporary luxuries. Love the restored original floors and ceilings and the design classics of the era juxtaposed with modern pieces. By Barcelona-based design studio vilablanch.

This breezy and all-white two-room apartment is the latest project sent over to Desire to Inspire by Laura Seppänen Design Agency. It’s the brand new home of Stina Mäntyniemi, the head of Cosmopolitan Finland and featured recently in Deko Magazine. The client’s wish was for a clean and monochrome interior. No carpets, no curtains. The Bertoia chair was though an absolute must. The look is cosy, minimalist Scandinavian with a palette of paperwhites used on walls, floors and ceilings. The existing kitchen was in a relatively good shape just updated with new cabinet doors, sink, faucet and the old door pull painted matt black. The counter top is Carrara marble. Laura incorporated the client’s existing furniture with carefully selected pieces from Finland and abroad, Scandinavian classics mixed with new Nordic brands. Just like the lightbox says – I want it all.

This pied-à-terre by Alexandra Kidd Design starts with a classic aesthetic and ramps up the impact with bold bursts of colour. Rich pinks, reds and oranges are splashed across the living room with vivid art works and fabrics but the energy is tempered by neutral walls and floors. Watch out for the bedroom though. Yellow and fuschia reign. An apartment where small makes a big impact.
