“A minimalist approach employed throughout this pavilion style renovation creates a home that is unpretentious and quiet, calming and restorative allowing its owners to revive and recharge away from busy professional careers. Soft colours, screens and an extensive use of natural materials hint effortlessly at Japanese architecture as a primary inspiration. Large windows maximise the garden view while allowing an abundance of natural light to soften the interior. Strong architectural forms of the house and terrace areas including the striking white timber fins pavilion terrace are softened by a considered landscaping approach. Open plan living areas with fully retractable sliding glass panels allow for a seamless transition to the outdoor timber deck, creating a strong connection to the garden. This flexibility also allows for options to follow the sun, shade and comfortable breeze in summer.”

A fibro beach shack on the Victorian coast gets one hell of a makeover by SJB. This project is now seven years old. Just goes to show that good design stands the test of time.

I am dyinggggg over this 75 m² apartment in an 18th century building near the Palais-Royal gardens in France. Racha Gutierrez and Dahlia Hojeij Deleuze of design studio Ebur were asked to maintain original details and add a discreet dose of modernity. Stone floors, herringbone parquet were restored, doors and windows were stripped, and some antique and modern furnishings and accessories were added to make this apartment spectacular.

We approached the project with the intention to not remove any features which were in good enough condition and could be made good or reused. The main focus was to create a more functional kitchen layout, gaining more storage space and a social dining area for entertaining. A general cosmetic refurb consisting of sanding down and repainting all millwork and doors, patching old walls and replacing the bathroom with all new tiles and brass ware. The property has an abundance of natural daylight through dual aspect windows, in the kitchen and living areas. This grounded the intention of working with this attribute by keeping the scheme in neutral tones, pale yellows and off whites. Infused with a generous amount of contrasting tones and materials create depth and intrigue. Geometric fabrics prints and tile patterns, adds a playful touch to the scheme. Further personalised with a mixed collections of wall hung art and collectable objects.
What a wonderful project by Pernille Lind Studio, and that deVOL kitchen is simply divine. Saving this to my inspiration folder.

Bettencourt Lodge

I have been following Matthew and Rick Bettencourt of Bettencourt Manor on IG for some time now and have been in love with their style – it’s earthy, rustic, vintage, geometric, contemporary….a little of everything rolled into this most wonderful package. They bought a 1400 sq ft log cabin in the Kawarthas (Omemee, On.) as an all-season escape from city life and the 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom Bettencourt Lodge is now available on Airbnb for an escape of your own! It is an absolutely stunning getaway in both summer and winter.
