Just little pops of blue in a shimmery silver bathroom. Photograph by Petrina Tinslay via 2c. Petrina is also responsible for one of my all time favourite shoots (and cover) for Vogue Living, Lydia Pearson’s home here in Brisbane. So maybe today is bought to you by pink as well.

What a simply beautiful kitchen! What a stunningly beautiful photograph! Oh the blue. The aged timber. The copper sink. The history and style. Sigh. Photography by Helen Norman. The woman is a genius with the camera. Run to her website now. Don’t dawdle. Run.

Chelsea Hing Design Consultants

Chelsea Hing Design Consultants are Melbourne based interior designers with a strong architectural focus. Their design philosophy is based on interiors taking their cue from the architecture, making sense with the surrounding environment. Mix that with clever planning and a practical understanding of how people use space to live & work and you get sensational spaces. Young, fresh and colourful. First off we have an apartment in South Yarra, Melbourne. Carly Chisholm from CHDC explains. “This client had long wished to own a Neo Metro apartment and commissioned CHDC to select all of the furniture, rugs & lamps and consult on placement of artworks. Referencing from the artwork, we selected bold colours and pieces to work with the strong architectural envelope yet still hold their own. All elements were lifted up off the floor to maximise the compact spaces.”

Colour your thing? Then you’re going to love this hospitality fitout  for Aqua Fish & Chippery, Hawthorn. Well known in the wholesale seafood business, Aquanas Seafood initially opened AQUA as a retail store for fresh fish. Six months after opening, CHDC were asked to update the store fitout to incorporate a new fish & chippery. The store was completely replanned to address the separation between the fresh fish & cooked product and a new concept developed to give the shop a more nostalgic and friendly feel. I love it and while I’m here I’ll have a salt and pepper calamari and minimum chips and maybe a battered sausage…. maybe. Check out more on the CHDC website.

My dream home

Patrick Flynn is a designer/project manager at envelopeA+D, an architecture and design firm based in Oakland, California and he emailed us thinking we’d be interested in a project the firm recently completed (it was featured in the NY Times yesterday). Interested??? I almost passed out when I saw the photos. This home is so unbelieveably cool and funky and creative and plucked right out of my dreams. I am completely smitten with it. The Victorian duplex is located in San Francisco, and is owned by Claire Bigbie (an interior designer who now designs for the firm) and her skateboarder boyfriend Jay Shapiro. It was renovated to house a creative studio for Claire on the main floor and the living quarters upstairs. I adore absolutely everything about this home, including the incredible blue-black exterior (used to downplay the Victorian embellishments). Thanks so much Patrick for sharing this with us! Every photo below is going in my inspiration folder, and I imagine in many of our readers’ folders too.

DC Design House bedroom

Brocky Proxmire wrote us about the bedroom his mother, interior designer Kelley Proxmire, designed for the DC Design House. It’s stunning, so elegant and sophisticated, and had a special feature: “The big hit of the room was the now you watch it (#7) now you don’t (#8) TV. The TV is mounted on a swing arm behind the drapery panels. There is a slit in the drapery panel on the end so that swing arm may be extended several inches into the room. The size of TV (19″) is correct size for this distance of TV viewing from the bed.” Brilliant! Thanks Brocky (and Kelley!)
