French by the sea

Pardon me. I’m having a little daydream. The vaccines have brought Corona under control and we can travel again. I’ve packed my bag and hopped a plane to France. I’m in Cap Ferret and this sweet little beach shack is mine. Sigh. What a lovely, lovely daydream. Renovation of a holiday house by L’Atelier Delphine Carrère.

Unexpected colours in a Georgian country house

Posted on Wed, 10 Feb 2021 by KiM

I am always on board with spaces that have unique colour combinations and where there is not a lot of white trim and ceilings. Designer Nicola Harding hit the nail on the head with this modernized country house in Berkshire, England. This generous Georgian country house has been completely re-energised for family living. On the ground floor, entranceways and connecting spaces are painted in vibrant blues and greens. Living spaces – and the vast garden room – are bathed in natural light and filled with soft furnishings and found pieces that have been arranged in the centre of each room to create a feeling of intimacy. Upstairs, soft greys, soothing pinks and pale blues are teamed with patterned textiles that have banished any sense of stuffiness from this handsome home.

More drama from Sarah Vaile

Because I can’t get enough, the drama of Sarah Vaile continues with this random selection from her portfolio. Her unusual paint colours, wallpapers and graphic textiles really elevates these spaces and are so invigorating.
