Sunday lounging at an inn

Posted on Sun, 3 Mar 2019 by KiM

Prince Edward County is an island on the north shore of Lake Ontario. Here you will find a quirky, campy inn called the Drake Devonshire. Multi-disciplinary design studio +tongtong had the task of turning a tired bed and breakfast and original c. 1880 foundry into an 11-room and two-suite contemporary inn. Something a bit more “hip” as all things Drake are (it’s the rural version of Toronto’s Drake Hotel). How sweet would this suite up in the peak of the A frame be?! (Photos: Nikolas Koenig)

A masterclass in colour and pattern

Posted on Fri, 1 Mar 2019 by midcenturyjo

A sophisticated colour palette and an inspired use of wallpaper and tile makes this Fitzroy house by Melbourne-based interior designer Kate Challis one of my all time favourites. It is brave and quirky, elegant and jewel like. It is in fact the designer’s own home, an ever evolving space, growing more and more beautiful with time. You can see an earlier version of this Melbourne house here.

There are a small handful of accounts on Instagram that I anxiously await new photos from, and Mexico-based interior decorator Dirk Jan Kinet is at the top of the list. His love of antiques and all things vintage (he has a shop in San Miguel de Allende that I am dying to visit but sadly it’s too far away from Puerto Vallarta where I go each winter and will be next month), his incredible talent at mixing bold colours and patterns always takes my breath away. Trust me when I say his account is a must-follow. Since it has been a while since I have featured his work (here and here), he kindly sent me over some pics and the rest I scoured the interwebs for (most from this article, photographed by Ana Hop). Enjoy!

Sunday restaurant style at Pink Mamma

Posted on Sun, 20 Jan 2019 by KiM

Oh, how I wish I could spend my Sunday in Paris’ Pigalle neighbourhood, enjoying a delicious meal at Pink Mamma. Designed by MBDS, this bar/restaurant is beautiful from the pink tiled exterior to the plant filled interior, including a rooftop garden. (photos: James McDonald unless otherwise noted)

Blue and green in a Paris apartment

Posted on Thu, 10 Jan 2019 by KiM

This post is a combination of 3 big loves of mine. Paris architecture, jaw-dropping interior design and one of my favourite architecture + design firms GCG Architectes. This apartment is really REALLY fabulous. I adore every inch of it – from the blue and green colour scheme to the chevron wood floors to the tile and that little high gloss dining niche (that is something I’m taking note of – I ADORE how they painted out the window sills). ***Update: this is the apartment of Studio Maddox, who is responsible for the interior design.
