I spy antiques, touches of traditional, dashes of mid-century, a hint of contemporary, dark and light, pattern and texture…this is why we love the work of Heidi Woodman so much. Her spaces are always a glorious gallimaufry of greatness.

Amsterdam-based designer Madelon Oudshoorn Spaargaren of MOS Interiors sounds an awful lot like me. She was keen on redecorating her room at 10 years old and would move her furniture around (I spend many weekends doing this). She also believes in only using a few new pieces in a space, and reusing existing furniture by reupholstering. She doesn’t follow the mainstream, doesn’t implement fast trends. She believes in being unique, introducing fabrics from around the world, Ikea hacks, and creating warm, comfortable spaces with good energy.

Bold and dramatic, avante garde and family-friendly. What a combination. The owners approached Regina Perez Montemayor of Studio Montemayor to work her design magic on their San Francisco home. Blending distinct design styles and eras the rooms are eclectic and unexpected showcasing fabulous art and revelling in a bold colour palette.

The owners’ love of contemporary living and outstanding art collection informed this stunning renovation of a Parisian neoclassical apartment by Le Berre Vevaud. A pared-back colour palette and clean-lined insertions into the historic shell ensure elegant, modern rooms. The focus is on balance, detail and modern beauty.

“The 1930’s Cape had undergone multiple renovations throughout the years by its previous visionary and eclectic owners. ERA chose to preserve and retain the layout and spirit of the house. Mechanicals were updated, all windows were replaced and the summer retreat was transformed into a year-round space for creativity and collaboration. A dilapidated entry volume was rebuilt and furnishings were chosen to enhance the open and airy environment. The palette of the architecture, including painted floors, wood clad columns, and fresh white baths, was combined with a mix of new and old furniture, melding different eras and materials to create a unique space that feels as though it is from no particular era.”
