Le 205

Posted on Fri, 7 Aug 2015 by midcenturyjo

Step inside the unassuming facade of this 1950s warehouse and you’ll find a minimalist open plan home. Hints of the building’s industrial past remain but as a shell that contains this super slick modern space. Seamless Corian benches, stainless steel, strip lighting and painted concrete play against a mix of contemporary and mid century furniture. I would, however be more at ease with this house if they would just move the shaving mirror away from the ethanol heater. Ouch! Is it a clue that the owner is hot stuff? A family oasis

This bright and airy extension to a California bungalow by Melbourne-based BG Architecture is all about flexible open plan living and a seamless transition between inside and out. Favourite bits? The generous daybed by the expansive window (which you just know will hide great storage) and the simple, modern lines of the kitchen warmed by wood and the terracotta lights. These stylish family quarters are the perfect relaxed oasis from the bustle of the outside world.

Main Street House

This simple and modern structure is my ideal new-build home (minus all the corrugated steel on the exterior – I am not a fan of that stuff). Concrete floors so cats can run amok as they do and I won’t have to scream, pale wood and white walls as a lovely backdrop for furnishings and art while not losing focus of the architecture, some exposed beamed ceilings, an abundance of large windows, and a streamlined outdoor space. Steel butterfly

A concrete, glass and steel butterfly alighting on a Californian meadow. Wings spread in the sun. Light on the land despite its monumental materials. An owner’s dream. An architect’s creation. The Butterfly house by Feldman Architecture.

A modern farmhouse

The location, the ranch style building, the materials equate to farmhouse but with a modern twist. A contemporary style, a casual elegance make this no rough and ready bunkhouse. It’s warm and welcoming with views forever. Santa Lucia Preserve Modern Farmhouse interiors by Kristin Rowell, Principal Of Scavullo Design.
