The villa

Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014 by midcenturyjo

Abandoned for years this late Victorian era house and stables in Fitzroy, Melbourne has been reinvented by Nest Architects. The remaining two original rooms open into a thoroughly modern family home with overlapping rooms as opposed to strictly open plan allowing for public and intimate spaces. A cleverly designed home filled with the owners eclectic furniture and art. Personality plus.

On the couch

On the fence? No I’m definitely not on the fence when it comes to this St Kilda West home by architects Kennedy Nolan. Love the minimal palette of black and white warmed by rich caramels and honey mustards. No I’m on the couch… in my daydreams. This is my last day off until Christmas and if I had my way you would never get me off that couch. Not ever. Not for Christmas parties and dinners and lunches and drinks and the occasional 5 day conference. Let the countdown to Christmas begin.

Concrete and acid green

The architect’s own warehouse space. Raw and restrained with a shock of acid green in the kitchen, open plan with changing levels to allow privacy, all washed with the natural light pouring through large windows. Modern urban living with a cool luxury. Young St, Fitzroy by Steve Domoney Architecture.

A modern two storey extension with polished concrete, plywood panels, open plan and a great indoor/outdoor connection. Yes please. I particularly like the ample custom storage. Stylish contemporary family living and sustainable design by Melbourne based Archiblox
