Miethe+Quehl

Posted on Tue, 20 Aug 2013 by midcenturyjo

Envy is a deadly sin. I know because I sin all the time. Better add greed and gluttony. I could sit here and overindulge in this wonderful apartment brought to life by Potsdam based architectural studio Miethe+Quehl. With great features to build on the architects have been refined in their touch. The historical sits comfortably with the slick and contemporary. The floors warm my greedy little heart, the light makes my eyes sting with tears. The sheer beauty of its deco bones makes me choke and splutter on my avarice. I am a bad girl. I deserve to be punished… and you can punish me… after I lick the computer screen a bit more.

Perfectly imperfect

Posted on Thu, 15 Aug 2013 by midcenturyjo

Slick, high end furnishings sit perfectly within an imperfect shell, heightening the luxe through contrast with the rough. But the old room holds firm with its faded grandeur. Is the beauty in the new or in the old or the way they interact? By Brazilian design studio Gisele Taranto Arquitetura.

Wick Design

There is a connection. A physical tug at my heart strings. There is an acknowledgement, an empathy, an understanding. There is also envy. These rooms speak to me in calm, steady but persistent whispers. Enter. Be still. Dream. Interiors by Wick Design.

Workstead

Workstead is a Brooklyn-based architecture and interior design firm that rocks my world. The industrial light fixtures they design and include in their spaces (and sell here) are so scrumptious. They suit their simple, organic yet strong and functional interiors perfectly. (Jo featured a couple of their kitchens here and a cool project here).

Antiq-BR

I’m at a loss for words today. One of my cats (admittedly my favourite) has been VERY sick the last couple of days and passed away a few hours ago. It’s times like this when blogging about interior design just seems so…trivial. I’d like to do a tribute to him on Monday’s pet post, and you’ll see why this has affected me so deeply. I leave you with the home and showroom for a Madrid-based antiques shop called Antiq-BR, where they carry French, Italian and Swedish treasures from the 18th & 19th centuries. Via Nuevo Estilo.
