In House

Posted on Fri, 14 Jun 2013 by midcenturyjo

Let’s end the week with a trip back to Brazil and the portfolio of interior designers Karina Salgado, Andréa Bugarib and Betina Barcellos of In House. Whether a bright and airy house or a a chic apartment high in the sky their work builds from a neutral base layering with colour and texture to create warm inviting spaces that are casually elegant and fresh. Love their treatment of balconies in the high rise apartments they have designed. Wonderful use of often overlooked, valuable space creating enticing outdoor rooms.

Maaike van Diemen

I am absolutely smitten with this home designed by Dutch interior designer Maaike van Diemen. It’s what I’m all about – neutrals, lots of textures, funky lighting (OH YES Moooi Dear Ingo suspension lamp), raw wood, white marble, steel, wrinkly linen….so when can I move in???

Very much

The morning draws on. The muffled thrum of a neighbour’s lawn mower provides the base note to the batting rhythm of a moth against the large window. There is someone somewhere in the house. A staccato of heels, the shudder of an old water pipe. A waft of coffee brewing. It cuts across the scent of gladioli. It is peaceful here. Beautiful. So beautiful. Time hangs still between the slow tock of an old clock. “Do you like my old house?” I turn with a smile and answer her. “Yes. Oh yes, very much.”

A lovely home via jj Locations.

Mark D. Sikes

Mark D. Sikes is an interior designer from West Hollywood, California and these photos are of his spectacular home in the Hollywood Hills. The cream and black colour scheme is dramatic and classy (my favourite combo) and his backyard is so dreamy that I had to feature it first.

Tanya Capello

Beautiful interiors with a marriage of contemporary and traditional. Serene and elegant but always with a sure sense of the practical. A soft, muted palette adds is layered with texture while careful attention to detail makes all the difference. But the decorating element I love the most in these rooms? (And one often neglected.) The wonderful light. Like another layer to the design. Stylish interiors by Tanya Capello.
