This timeless beach house in Alys Beach, Florida by Starr Sanford Design is the stuff of dreams. White on white, modern yet with a hint of Caribbean Colonial, relaxed and sophisticated. If you stop by to visit you’ll find me on the roof terrace drink in hand with not a care in the world. Beach side bliss.

The modern and simple architecture of this home is appealing to my inner minimalist. Add these massive doors and windows opening to a courtyard and this is about as close to heaven as you can get. By Parisian architecture and design firm Le LAD.

Not a skerrick of blue and white. Yes it references old barns. Yes there are hydrangeas in tubs and a swimming pool in a sea of manicured grass but no blue and white tchotchkes and upholstery fabrics, no white painted furniture, no nautical themes, stripes  or shells. We all fell in love with Casa Cook Rhodes. Now it’s time to do the same with its sister property. Taking inspiration from traditional Greek island architecture, Casa Cook Kos has a village-like feel with one and two-storey cubist houses grouped around gardens and patios. The palette is earthy and natural with a play on dark interiors and bright outdoor spaces. From rooms to suites and villas the experience is about low-key luxury. There is one problem though. It’s not really a weekend getaway. It’s more a lifestyle runaway.

As you walk along the man-made canyons of New York it pays to look up. You may just see a green tendril hanging down or glimpse a few tree tops waving in the wind. Even better if you’re high up in one of its buildings you may be teased by private green spaces below. I thought I’d share two such gardens by Brook Landscape, the first at the top of a disused fire escape in Soho and the other on a terrace in Midtown East.
