The garden library

Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014 by midcenturyjo

Down at the end of the garden is where you would normally find a folly. But how can you call a garden library a folly? Created by Czech firm Mjölk Architects, this fibreglass and wood box provides a reading room, a sleeping floor, a perch to observe your literary kingdom and of course books, glorious books. My head is swimming with possibilities. Just where in my garden will I place mine?

You can find me here….

Summer is here, it is hot and I LOVE it, and I want to spend every single minute I can outdoors. Being cooped up indoors for 6 months really gets to me. So over this weekend (a long one for us Canadians), enjoy the warmth, the sun and your favourite beverage. I will be heading to my sister’s cottage tomorrow to help christen cottage season, but in the meantime you can find me at any one of these locations… 😉

The second of today’s stalking targets. Just moments from the other house but so different. A worn patina to its facade and a country meets artist meets historical meets faded charm feel. Favourite rooms? I’d love to sit and gossip with friends over a large pot of tea in the kitchen and my inner crafter is coveting the craft room. So which one could you live in? I’m leaning towards… hum… this one. Link here while it lasts.

Cottonwood Farm

Please, please, pretty please can I go to Cottonwood Farm? Right now? Do not pass go, do not collect $200? I’m exhausted. I think it’s Monday. I spent one day in bed and the rest of the long previous days at my new venture (more of that to come soon I hope). I think I deserve a fantasy break. In real life fabulous but even in my dreams pretty darn good. 61 private acres below a World Heritage National Park, stylish cottage, peace and quiet. Bliss. Ah! if only….

Urrutia Design

I looooove this home in Mill Valley, California. It was recently renovated, extended and decorated by Urrutia Design (principals are Jason Urrutia and Martha Carvalho). The interior is lovely (fabulous dining room!) but the landscaping and particularly the backyard oasis is a DREAM! The outdoor shower is so freaking cool – matching the tile to the cedar shingles. Brilliant!!
