Soaking in the view

Posted on Tue, 12 Sep 2017 by midcenturyjo

A magical house in a magical spot in the magical land of New Zealand. Pardon me if I stay on the deck while you pop over to LTD Architectural Design Studio to see the rest of the house. Such a clever transformation from deck to dining to twin tubs for twin soaking… soaking in the water and soaking in the view. (I’m assuming the tubs are hand or hose filled with simple drainage of the grey water into the garden. Now where can I incorporate this into my house?)

Envy

Sometimes I look at a home and my first thought isn’t “oh it’s beautiful,” not even a simple “wow”. No sometimes my green eyed monster stirs and I mutter “lucky bastards”. Facade, pool and terrace on Shelter Island by New York-based Andre Tchelistcheff Architects.

Sad, sorry and down right ugly, this tired 70s house and garden needed a total makeover. Enter Ascher Smith Exterior Styling and Landscaping based in Perth Western Australia. OMG the after is nothing less than a miracle. A Moroccan vibe with liberal retro references it is the perfect family outdoor space. Love it!

Ivy and stone

It might be winter in my part of the world but that didn’t stop me pottering around the garden on the weekend. Pruning and raking, simple hard landscaping and planning for the summer to come. Dreaming of courtyard gardens with sandstone paving and ivy growing up walls, firepit and crunchy gravel, sun traps and sunken ponds. Dreaming of a garden like this one in South Yarra, Melbourne by Kate Seddon Landscape Design.

Stalking a coach house in Sweden

Posted on Mon, 19 Jun 2017 by midcenturyjo

Today I’m stalking an old coach house just outside the medieval town of Landskrona in Sweden. Beautifully restored with polished concrete floors, exposed brick and old beams the 1850s house is complimented by a small but perfectly formed garden with flowering fruit tree, hammam and Japanese hot tub. I’m dreaming of late spring days spent with good friends and family, bees buzzing in the blossom and lunch just about to be served in the outdoor dining room. Link here while it lasts.
