Moody in Murcia

Posted on Thu, 18 May 2023 by midcenturyjo

The structure of this single-family house in the Region of Murcia in Spain was built before Manuel García took over to create the moody and modern interiors.

“The aim is to present an eminently horizontal home, very compact and material, with cladding executed with care and detail. A succession of planes that are overlapped reminds of strata layers.”

The small plot was designed for enjoyment and easy maintenance. Due to the climate of the area, the ground floor is open to the outside to take advantage of the mild winters and the abundant sunny days. On the upper floor, the bedrooms open onto the uncovered terrace that surrounds this level. The continuation of materials from the outside to the interior provides the common link. Meadow magic

“A modern barn compound that rose out of a once vacant lot, situated amongst a meadow and collections of mature trees, as if it had always been in Sagaponack. The program called for an organically maintained landscape, with a wildflower abundant show meadow to the south, and a more wild matrix of tall grasses to mix in with the carefully sourced and placed trees. As the landscape has matured, Summerhill has been tasked with cultivating the many native species that have self sown into the original planting, while honoring the original design aesthetic that called for intense bursts of color in the Summer.”

I can hear the bees buzzing through my computer screen. Meadow magic from the portfolio of Summerhill Landscapes. (Landscape architect Rees Roberts + Partners and house by Steven Harris Architects.)

An old world and nautical Palm Beach home

Maintaining original Mediterranean Revival architecture in this gorgeous home in Palm Beach was the best decision the owners and designer Mark D. Sikes could have made. Cypress ceilings, metal railings, decorative bottle-glass faux windows, and even a family crest of dubious origin over the living room fireplace were kept intact. Greens and blues and a bit of coral, some stenciling, hand-painted wallpaper and lots of patterns in tile, upholstery and rugs make this home a bit nautical, a bit old world and layered in a way only a seasoned designer can. Ca S’Alou

It’s a house designed from the materiality, to use the earth of the excavation to make the facades but also the materials of the structure such as the terracotta blocks or the interior painting that is made of earth.
A unique design was inspired by Mediterranean nostalgia and simple, minimalist aesthetics. Earthy tones, simple forms free from distraction foster relaxation and enhance the idyllic atmosphere of this magical rustic place. Outside inside is the main goal of the interior design. The materials are noble only because they are natural, not processed. They calcify over time, are affected by lichens and the wood returns to the color it really is.

So simple and textural, with a sense of grandeur that makes it really special. By Rafel Munar and Pau Munar of Mallorcan architectural studio munarq.

Modern Deco Hacienda

“Originally built as a 1920s Spanish Revival, we gave the three-story home a complete overhaul to incorporate modern style and Art Deco influence … The space includes a library, elevator, tasting room, and lower level designed for lengthy stays from family and friends. The centerpiece of the home is a spectacular custom fabricated, curved blackened-steel staircase with bronze top cap that connects all four levels—including the roof deck, with its hot tub and raised vegetable/herb garden.”

Light, glass, Art Deco lines, standout vintage lighting. It all comes together under the design hands of Regan Baker Design to produce an all-enveloping family home over multiple levels.
